Fake Paypal Email

Just a heads up. Tonight I received an email claiming to be from "service@paypal.com", and asking to confirm account details. If you follow the link you get taken to a site in a new window where you are asked for you account details, and then for your mothers maiden name, Social sec. no and your card pin address and the rest.

Hopefully no one around here would be fooled by something like that, but you never know...

Always remember, you can make the sender's address say anything you want...and it's not a very difficult thing to do.  If you're not expecting it, don't open it!

Thanks for the heads-up. My sister-in-law has just opened a Paypal account. I'd better pass this on.

NO reputable bank/financial institution will send you an e-mail (or make a phone call) asking you to click and confirm your private information ... ss nbr, pin, card number etc.

My sis-in-law is none too wise in the ways of the Internet. I was listening to a radio discussion on E-mail scams the other day. You must have seen the sort of thing. "My name is General Bloggs from Timbuctoo. I have a considerable amount of money that I can't touch & need your help etc. etc. Send $10,000 in used banknotes to this address & you will get 10% of my fortune in return blah blah blah ........" including numerous spelling mistakes.

You would be surprised how many people fall for it. One born every minute.

I just got an e-mail like that so I sent him back a message telling him I was going to send fluffy after him.  It's a picture omag posted a while ago (I think it was omag), see below.

 I get these all the time from fake paypal and ebay phishers, you are not supposed to open any links associated with these emails, just forward them to either spoof@paypal.com or spoof@ebay.com, you will receive an email almost immediately confirming that it is a fake.

Otherwise they wouldn't bother sending them. I've been lucky - this was the first I've ever had - or ever noticed before deleting it. I probably only noticed this one as I have a paypal account myself...

I regularly get these "Paypal" E-Mails described above...
I take great delight in sending them straight to Mr. Freeserve's "Spam Tray"...
..he's always pleased to receive them... ...!
