here's a nice front page story i picked up from the Suburban Chicago newspaper - the daily herald
http://www.dailyherald.com/news_story.asp?intid=3839671I can see their point of view... espically since at O'Hare, 747's must taxi a specific way to the terminal (otherwise, they can't use taxi A or B). anyway, i can see how airports might not want to be ready for an aircraft this size....

This is all old news. Airports have known for years that they would have to expand and update for the A380. Memphis did so, and a number of others have aswell. I find it interesting this story comes from Boeings home town and also mentions Seattle a number ofd times with seattle being a big boeing city aswell.

With all the politics that goes on between Boeing and Airbus, this does not surprise me one bit...
It's been known for years, and in the end its the airports that may get left behind - if I was an airport operator I'd like the idea of a 500+ seat plane coming in, in terms of the number of people it would bring, and the landing fee you could charge...

Not just that, but the fact it would free up gates, instead of an airline running say two 767 flights into an airport taking up two gates it would only be one gate taken up. That then means delays caused by gate congestion are reduced meaning more aircraft can be brought in and turned around quicker. More money.

...and thank heavens Airbus exists, as what good would a virtual monopoly of the commercial market by Boeing do...

For an intercontinental airliner, nothing can beat the lines of a DC-7!

Ever been in one? (or should that be on one?) I went to Spain on one once, back in the early 70s I think it was. Think it was a 4B belonging to British Airtours. They look nice enough but it was bloomin' noisy inside. A tad draughty too. I swear this was coming through the window joint which was a tad worrying.

And the DC-9 (MD-8X) series is probably the quietest example for a civilian aircraft.

HS146/Avro RJ series would probably win that one...
