A time NOT to be living in Ireland.... ...!

For all those people, like me, who have been brought up on Imperial speeds and distances, the poor Irish are now going to have to learn a new Metric system....
Kilometers.... ::).... ....!

METRI-FRIED..?... ...!

All the road signs are being changed to show distances and speeds in Kilometers and Kilometers per hour...!

Just imagine the confusion that is going to cause...and think of all those speed fines coming their way.... ...!

I just hope the powers-to-be don't come up with that daft idea here in Great Britain...at least while I'm still able to drive... ... ...!

Hmmm, too true Foz. If this happens I might pack up driving altogether before they ban me. They have to find the money to pay for changing all the road signs for one thing. Where's this madness going to end? ???

PPS. While we're about it we might as well change over to driving on the right. Get it all over & done with in one fell swoop. Oh, the glorious confusion that would cause. Bring the whole country to an immediate standstill. I can just see the headlines now. LOL

I can't see a big problem driving a car in kilometers. if you think about it, the only things that change is the speedometer on your car an the spped which your car is travelling. same thing if someone in the UK starts to drive in the US, all they goota do is read numbers.

of course, man I would hate a change in measurement. hope you like it fozzer!!

Why do you guys don';t like the metric system anyway, I think it makes more cense then the imperial one and all the conversions are more simple I guess everyone will adapt easy to the new signs, and during the transition time is going to be the perfect time to test the limits of your car and get rid of the ticket because you didn't know the conversion.

We have nothing against the metric system. You chaps can use any system you like as far as I'm concerned. It just seems a pointless waste of time & taxpayers money (my money) to change something that has worked perfectly well for centuries. Not only that but I'm used to MPH. I know what 30 mph is like without looking at my speedo. I doubt that many people in this country have any idea what 50 kph is like any more than I do. Although petrol has been sold by the litre for many years now I'm used to working out my petrol consumption in MPG. You can't change the way people think by simply changing the law. It's about time those pillocks realised that.

Maybe it's a good idea to synchronize things.

When I go to Italy I need four plugs to load my mobile telephone because The Netherlands, Belgium, France and Italy all use an other size - same when I had a car driving on LPG (gas): three plugs to arrive in Spain.
I can't use my mobile phoon in the USA: other system and - o well, I can make a long list. When I buy a DVD in Japan or -

i actually wouldn't mind going to metric. the whole
12 inches to a foot,
3 feet to a yard,
5280 feet to a mile
furlong is somewhere in here
15 centimeters to an inch

everything is easier when is one decimal place over.

This is not something easy to do and I think a very big transition period would have to be done because people won't change their speedometers so the signs should have the speed limits in both systems for at least ten years.

My car is 8 years old & the speedo is marked in both mph & kph. This is not the point. Like many other people in this country I've been driving for over 40 years. I'm used to the system we use. This is an island & there is no need to change it. Just imagine the confusion it would cause in your country if they suddenly decided to change over to the Imperial system - or even worse, to drive on the opposite side of the road starting from midnight tonight.

This is how they always end up doing it here. It simply causes more confusion. If you must change it, do it in one go & get it over & done with. The speed limit signs in this country are not marked in mph. They just have numbers on them.

One of the big problems for us "oldie drivers" would be the change from Miles to Kilometers...!
Trying to quickly estimating the distance from one town to another would result in a brain hemorrhage...!

I have spent a whole life-time using the Imperial system of measurement.
It may not make much sense to a youngster brought up on the Metric system, but for us "Imperialists!", it is a disaster of gigantic proportions.... ... ....!

Personally i like things as they are. MPH lbs ounces and so on. Even the younger generation work on those numbers these days. Schools try to teach metric but i think thats part of the reason some people are lacking in good grades. Why mess with what works. What gives a bunch of guys in brussels the right to tell us what system we should use? It doesnt make anything easier, it creates problems, it costs alot of money and its bound to fail.
