What's up, Duck? Well, I'm sure silly pictures of dogs can't hurt  ;)  (see my pics of Peg, the Wonder-Rotty, in the Photos forum).
I think "all of the above", though, is probably a good description of what they;'re looking for. Just follow the theme and image format guidelines, and don't forget to post before midnight Greenwich Time (not your local time) on the deadline date, like some idiot I know (D'Oh!), and you have as good a chance as anybody else, I reckon.

Hello Clipper, and many others who may be wondering the same thing. I will give you some info on the screenshot contest!

1. The contests started back in September thanks to Kevin, (Dread Pirate) and a few others. I along with many have wanted a monthly contest but Pete is so busy that he basically told us run with it. The first few prizes were "personal" ones by the judges. As we got better at it, we have been able to contact some of the Payware companies to Sponsor the prize. This has been really great! It allows us to to supply a nice reward for the winner and also gets a little promotion for the company donating the prize!

2. When the contest is over, all the judges will pick three of their favorite shots! The judges are Me (Fly2e), Dread Pirate Roberts, Ozzy72, Ramsa329, BMan1113VR & Rifleman. That will total 15 shots. From there we will See if there are duplicates. Usually there is but if there isn't, the gloves come off!

My thought on here may seem to champion the underdog, but in keeping the playing field level by not allowing any payware sceneries or vehicles, I try to factor in an allowance for those who may not have the funding to build and operate a more expensive system or pay for the tailoring of its resources .......
So in saying this, if a shot really meets the theme, and catches my eye with good composition and content and even still has a bit of lesser sharpness than the absolute best, it may gain my favor and be the one I choose.......you needn't have the best system to show the concepts we request each month.......just catch my eye on the theme.......

I couldn't have asked for more in your explanations.  :)
I'm glad to see the emphasis is not solely on image perfection. Gives everyone a fair shot. Great competition, great site! Oh, by the way Rottydaddy, "Rudder", in his working suit, may take offense to the silly dog picture comments ;D Everybody's gotta make a living you know!  8)

I'm the oddball of the group, when I look at a shot I always ask myself, would I like that sitting in a frame on the wall above my desk.
So with me it tends to be the artistic merit of the shot rather than the high-quality "pretty" shots that get my vote. Rifleman and I often have similar (sometimes even the same) choices.
So there is no prejudice against lower end systems with poorer graphics cards or older software. I've voted for some seriously surprising ones, purely as I liked them as a shot...
Basically just pick something you like and see what happens is my advice ;)
