Crime on Earth

i did my usual thinking about what would happen in the future, and i began to think about crime. we all wish in the future we could stop crime at the drop of a dime (it rhyme (that rhymed too ;D)) here's the conclusion I came to

if all crime on earth were to end:
> military forces would not be needed
> police forces would not be needed
> Forensics institutes would be gone
> prisions, jails, and institutions would not be needed
> security system companies would not be needed
> Theft insurance would not be needed
> key and lock companies would not be needed
> News Sources would lose a huge chunk of news
> hospitals would lose many patients
> security camera companies would lose out

so, with all of this gone, this would also happen:

Companies close in the areas of: Sercurity, Rehab, Medical, Insurance, Media, & Government

People would lose jobs in these areas as well.

and the computer, science, medical, and educational resources aren't growing fast enough.

ultimately, crime would begin again becuase a huge work force is now unemployed and out of money.

now in the short term, yes crime is bad, but in the long run, crime acutally has a good impact on economy.

none of this is intended to encourage people to be criminals, i'm just posting out loud.

Ah, but aircraft, steam engines, internal combustion engines, and probably the wheel itself put a lot of people out of work (consider evry occupation and industry related to horses, for example). Some people did try to stop technological development for that reason, but it didn't work (although the Luddites made a lot of trouble!). This stuff has too many benefits for too many people. Many got filthy rich, and most saw their standard of living improved, if they adapted quickly enough. Things didn't just collapse.
 Of course, any simple blanket solution to crime would probably involve drugs, implants, or constant surveillance or something- personally, I'd rather get mugged (I know, I've been mugged). I'm not even sure I'd like to see a society where genetic research has found some gene for antisocial behavior and bred it out of the population. Ethical behavior has no real value or meaning unless a choice is made, in my opinion.

why would medical close? People will get hurt regardless of crime, they will get sick for all eternity.

I heard about this book that talks about how War gives our lives meaning...which is why we can probably never make War go away (I haven't read it yet).

Until we can elminate people's ability to form opinion, war will be part of our history.

Amen, "Brave New World" by Huxley is indeed a very interesting book.  I had to read it for a cultural dynamics of technology class I took via the internet...

Very affordable book as well, I believe it was in the neighborhood of around 10USD on Amazon.. ;-)
