Death- your views?

Postby Romulus111VADT » Thu Jan 06, 2005 7:55 am

I was curious what everyone's thoughts are on death.

Many, many moons ago. In a country far, far away. I became well acquainted with death and all it's insidious ways of taking people. I learned that it is your constant companion. It sleeps with you, drives with you, works with you and is always with you. I learned to make friends with death. God knows I've seen it's face enough and I've learned not to fear it. When it comes for me. I will embrace it and go on the last great journey of my life. A journey we are all destined to make some day. Because of my deep religious beliefs. I believe I will go on to a better existence.

This is not meant to start a flame war over religious belief or non-belief. It is simply asking what your views/feelings are on death.

It's interesting how most all western cultures believe this. Most all far eastern cultures believe in life after death. Even though the phrase is a bit contradictory- "Life" after "Death". I've always felt it was more of an altered state of existance.

Yeah, I'm going to have to go with Theis on that one (I'm a westerner too), when I'm dead I'm dead and that's it. This is becoming an increasingly popular belief among people my age (young) over here, is this effecting Europe too?

I don't usually get involved in these discussions. It might sound contradictory but death is the only certain thing about life. It comes to us all & is unavoidable. I have no fear of death itself but there are many terrible ways of dying. I hope to be spared that & go out quickly.

I've tried to live a good life & live each day to the full. At my age I'm pleasantly surprised to wake up in the morning & discover I'm still breathing. I've been extremely lucky & if I were to die tomorrow I have very few regrets. I hope I've done just a little to help others when they needed it. I have no illusions about an after-life. I believe that is in the memories I leave behind of the things I did while I was alive. I've told my dear daughter not to mourn me when I go but to be happy she knew me & to think fondly of her old Dad. She is also part of my after-life & part of me will live on in her. The best I can hope for is for someone to look back & say "Ah I remember him. He wasn't a bad old bloke". ;)

Like the end of a video tape. The last picture and - black.

If I'd die right here, right now, I neither would mind nor I would regret it.

As a Christian, I believe that those who have sinned but are willing to allow forgiveness by Jesus Christ will be invited to heaven.  Those who sin without repent will be banished to hell.

Again, not a religious flame on those who don't believe that which I do.  But if asked my beliefs, I'm going to be honest about them.  lol
Great edit, Bob.
