Well 'tis the season and it seems I have this years cold, I do everything possible to try and avoid contracting this annoying thing, but it still seems like once a year always right about this time I catch cold anyways, runny nose, sniffles, slightly soar throat, you all know the symptoms, it's really more of an annoyance than anything.
So let's hear some ideas on how you get rid of a cold.

It will be gone in a day or two, I think I narrowed it down to exactly when and where I came in contact with the virus. I take vitamin C everyday and rarely does a cold effect me for more than 2 days, I'm actually kind of glad it hit me on the weekend, I should be able to get rid of it before I have to go back to work Monday.

I was just interested in hearing everyones prefered methods of relieving the symptoms, I started on the meds this morning.

I know some people get colds and are totally miserable for the endurance, my colds are just annoying, I will go along feeling fine for a while and then the nose will let lose and sneezing will start for a while and then it goes away again, like in waves.

Well a doctor told me this about colds:

"You can treat a cold and it'll last 3 days. You can leave a cold and it'll last you half a week."

::)
I think he's right!

Just a virus, I think. Please don't touch your computer  ;D

Stay two days at home, on your couch, read a book, look tv - it helps me.

Paracetamol or Ibruprofen ...... just to relieve some of the symptoms ..... otherwise there's nothing else you can do.

Eno's right, meds to relieve the symptoms (Contact of Nyquil works best for me) and just plain rest.

Well it's pretty much gone now, I'm glad I had it over the weekend, I haven't missed a single day of work in three or four years and this cold wasn't bad enough to have kept me home, but it sure does suck trying to work with a runny nose and such, that part was at it's worst Saturday, Sunday I slept for a while in the afternoon which I never do.
I have been taking the cold meds and nyquil at night, so by this morning I felt pretty good, by midday I pretty much was back to normal.

A lot of people have been missing work since the holidays, but I know a lot of these guys will stay home for whatever reason they can come up with whether it is legitimate or not, and a wave of illness passing through the shop just seems to give most everyone an excuse to take a day off, not me, I absolutely hate missing work, I really have to be unable to get out of bed or off the couch to miss a day.

I like NyQuil if I get sick, but I also like Zinc tablets to prevent it as much as possible. ;)

ah, the common cold... :-) Used to get me every year and I would end up with a really annoying cough for almost two months...doctors would give me pills and such, nothing seemed to clear up the cough...

This year I got the dreaded cold right before finals week... luckily the tests weren't too bad this time around...

as usual the cough remained after the symptoms of the cold wore off the cough as always remained...

Amazingly enough after another week though the cough dissappeared too! :-) I attributed it to the Zyrtec allergy medication that I'm taking this year as that is the only thing that has changed from last year to this....

I too pride myself on not missing work because of illness, and from the time I started working (12-12 years old) to this past summer I hadn't missed a day of work anywhere...Unfortunately a few months ago I had some impacted wisdom teeth and the oral surgeon didn't deem it neccessary to take them out in a quick fashion...two months later and 3 sick days they finally came out and I've been there ever since, using vacation time for family issues....

Besides the fact that I get paid by the hour and I hate a short paycheck, this is exactly why I never miss work, so that if something ever does come up that really does require a few days off it won't be a problem.

I see people miss 2-3+ days every month claiming they didn't feel good, and they still have their jobs, give me a break! When they miss work someone has to cover their position and ever since Christmas we have been severly short handed almost every day, I say if someone doesn't want to show up to work everyday replace them with someone who does.

Three cheers mate! :-)

[soapbox]

About two years ago a lot of us people got laid off from where I worked, after two months they called me back..later on I found out that I was one of the first because I "had no bills"...

Umm what do you call tuition? Books, Insurance/car? etc... These things all add up as well...

Sure I'm not paying for a house, but I really wish I was...in the past 3 1/2+ years I have spent over $42,000USD towards an education..tuition is due in full every six months (Basically before each semester starts), unlike a house payment which can be spread over the course of 20+ years if so desired!!! Also keep in mind that when I'm in school for 8 months out of every year I'm only part time making less than anyone else there makes...

I know I can take student loans out to pay for my education, but if I can pay for it now by working hard, why not? Right? And I can't really complain because this past semester was the only time that I was really short money and had to do the 3 payments throughout the semester...

I'm not trying to complain too much here, I just wish that the people I work with (Boss included) would think for a minute and realize that just because I don't have a house payment, I still might have bills that need to be paid, and things that need to be done.

Thankfully I've only got 4 more months to go before graduation and I'll be able to get a better job somewhere... ;-)

[/soapbox]

Okay back on topic...what are the best remedies to a regular old cold?
