Sittin' on the front porch eatin' HOT fresh bread and bisquits with butter, that mom just baked... (Didn't it taste good??)

Remember eatin' fried bread dough with sugar or white powered sugar?

A time when the biggest thrill of the year was when Barnum and Bailey's wagons were unloaded from the train, and the Fireman's Volunteer Band came marching down the street ahead of them.....

Remember . . .Red light, Green light. Chocolate milk, Lunch tickets. Penny candy in a brown paper bag. butterscotch, doubledutch, jacks, kickball, dodgeball, y'all!??

Remember Hula Hoops and Sunflower Seeds, Jolly Ranchers, blowpops, Mary Janes, Grape and Watermelon Now-Laters? (What about "Alexander the Grape," "Lemonheads"?)

When the ice cream man came jingling down the street, kids coming running from blocks around, and eatin' a 'super dooper sandwich' for a nickel.

Remember runnin' through the sprinkler . . . The smell of the rain...The Warmth of the sun and lickin' salty lips . . .?

Watchin' Saturday cartoons at the movies, all day for 10

No.  No I don't.  I do remember MS Flight Simulator before there were enough versions for it to merit a version number.  I also remember MSFS 2.0, MSFS 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, then I lost track, then 7.0, and now 9.0.

I guess that's as good a way as any to mark the passage of time.

Mostly the use of the word was as a childhood way of picking on the opposite sex. As in children below the age of 10 would use it as a reason they disliked "girls" or "Boys". It was used to in a innocent, fun like manner to explain the reasons that you felt ill at ease around a girl that was apparently attracted to you. Your buddies would pick on you about it and taunt you about the fact that the little girl loved you. Basically childish fun-playground taunts. American children, have been using the word for several generations.

There is real medical term for "cooties"-

The original cooties were very real and extremely nasty, since the word was first applied to body lice. It

Unfortunately I think that children would use more explicit terms now. That charming childhood innocence is soon lost the minute they start school.

PS. Spin the bottle was associated with a completely different pastime in the "Swinging" sixties & seventies.

It's really good, I'd really recommend it to all Grandpas who would like nice grand-children.

As for you older people, if you think these olden times which lacked so many modern cons were better, can I ask what has actually changed?  Is it people are more selfish or what? And for the real elderly people here - what do you think can be done?
It's just that I'm always hearing people talk like this, but I never hear any reasons.  ::)

Hi Ben. It obviously worked for you. I'm not convinced this is necessarily the best option. I've always thought you gain a great deal from mixing with your peers. Some things at school might be unpleasant at times but you learn how to deal with them. This is all part of a well-rounded education which will serve you well when you leave home & have to cope with the real world.

Humbug. Public schools - unless in a socially difficult area - are totally equal concerning the "niceness" of its attendants. But this is only valid for (birth) years up to 1988. "Modern" kids (1989 and later) mostly are annoying,respectless brats.

I think your right there in one way. It certainly is a case though of 'What one man's meat is another man's poison'. I suppose it's what you get used to and how you interpret the present siutation.

I think you'll find that everyone looks back on their youth as the "good ol' days". I'm sure that when you're my age you'll be boring your grandchildren about how life was back in the 90s - 00s much like I'm boring you now.

Lol - I suppose so. But, you are not boring me - It's always  cool to hear how the older people lived. I enjoy hearing about it.

Finally, please don't judge me with so many other old fogies that can't stand kids & are always complaining about teenagers. I can still remember what it was like to be young. I get on well with most young people as they know I like them & I treat them no differently to anyone else. It's a case of mutal respect.

Oh no - I wasn't - not at all. But if you did I would understand 100%.

I have no experience of home-schooling so I can't comment on that. My daughter went to the local comprehensive. She had to put up with a certain amount of bullying & sometimes came home in tears. She quickly learned how to deal with it & had an excellent education. It couldn't have been better if we'd paid a small fortune to send her to a private school.

If I could go back in time I wouldn't change a thing.  The best thing she ever did was go on to university & learn to cope on her own for a few years. While she was there she met her future husband. They've been together now for 11 years. I'm so happy for them.
