Here's my rant about the FCC.

The FCC sucks. People are responsible for what they and their kids watch. In my opinion, the FCC shouldn't control what is on TV. Besides, controlling what people see on television is totally pointless. Hell, I see things in my job that would be kicked off of tv.


People that complain to the FCC piss me off. They are afaid of watching something bad happen on tv, but if they witness something bad happening on the streets, they just sit there and watch like they have no life. These people complain over hideous reasons. If you don't like what you see, hit the up button, you dork.

I can't complain about what I see on the job. What am I to do? Go complain to the FCC that some drunk disrobed herself in front of me? Sorry folks, the FCC would laugh in my face. Which is exactly what I wish they would to do people who bitch and moan because little Johnny wasn't properly supervised.

Alas since whichever network (ABC?) got fined for Janets "boob" (pardon the pun) I think all networks in the US are running scared. Britain has a good system with the watershed that only allows certain things after 9PM etc. This means that the channels self-regulate properly and it rarely goes wrong, and when it does the brown stuff hits the fan at supersonic velocity.
However in Hungary they have a much funnier system, if a network fouls up badly, then they have to be off the air for a set period of time as punishment (decided by the government, and normally for peak evening viewing time to cost them in lost revenue), and they have to print up an apology on the screen for the duration of the banning (however many hours it is). This is really funny as they have to confess to what naughty thing they've done and apologise to the country. Its REALLY funny The first time I saw it I thought it was some kind of joke!

I agree with you there. One good example that I saw during my short stint as a Sheriff's Deputy in the late 70's was at a porn book store.

This store had been there since they invented the word, "porn". Some exceptionally brilliant people decided to build an old folks trailer park directly behind the store. To make a long story short, the old folks would be in front of it during the day, protesting it's existence. At night, we (Sheriff's Dept) would be across the street hiding on a stakeout trying to catch minors going in and out. Invariably we'd see the very same old men (that had been protesting during the day with their wives) come up, park their 3 wheeled bicycles in the shadows. Peek out to see if the coast was clear. Then dash into the store and come out with an arm full of magazines. lmao

I'm against censorship & agree that the people that complain the loudest tend to be the biggest hypocrites. However, it seems to me that many modern film & TV producers are out to shock just for the sake of it. Graphic violence & foul language seems to be the norm these days, even in ordinary "family" films. Each new release has to outdo the previous one to be successful & I can't think where it will all end. It would take a lot to offend me but I don't need it & can do without it. Some of the most frightening classic horror movies contained no violence or bad language at all. Your own imagination can be far more terrifying than anything shown on the screen.

I've haven't seen Private Ryan but from all the reviews I've read it's an excellent film. I never understood all the fuss about Ms Jackson's boob. I can see more than that on Page 3 in the daily newpapers.
