I love when telemarketers call!
I'll do all sorts of things to them.
I do respect the fact that they are like all others just people doing a job, but on the other hand I get no respect at my job so why should they?  ;D

I'll put them on hold (for a LONG time)

I have a cordless phone and use it outside often, I also have a bunch of firecrackers.
When they call I'll light of some firecrackers, then reply "Damn those Hacketts and McCoys!!

I have pretended not to be the rightful owner of the house (ex. burglar)

I have asked "How do you perform CPR, I have a problem here!

And there are many others LOL!!! ;D

I just speak slowly and loudly in English with a strong accent of my choice (I particularly enjoy drunk Glaswegian, or crazy Cardiff man!), the natives hang up in no time whatsoever ;D

Some trick i use from time to time:

Keep them going until they are getting to the 'what's your age' stuff, ehn get rid of them by thelling that they don't have the right to know your private data

I usually wait until they identify the company and then say: "You're from ***?  I know you guys; you're the one with that thing!"  To which I usually get "What thing is that?"  I usually lead them on for a few seconds with 'You know, that thing!'  finally they'll ask again "What thing?" at which point I'll say "The Click!" and hang up on them...  ;)

It is indeed fun to harass these folks. Most of them seem to be a little slow in the common sense area. My brother-in law, thirteen (13) was on the phone with one of these kind folks, who was trying to sell him a mortgage.

While it is fun to tease and torment these folks, I do often realize it must be a very hard job, and also keeping in mind that they are human beings with real emotions... I dunno, it may be the Christian in me acting out but I don't like to tease people... :-/

What really sucks is when you pick up the phone and get a recording saying 'Please stand by for an important message regarding...'  I guess they got the message from people hanging up on them, because they're resorting to machines to eliminate that aspect.  Unfortunately, who is dumb enough to wait on hold for a telemarketer?   ::)
