Guess we're not the only ones who like flight simulators - disemodied mice brains do, too!

OK
That just goes to show you that even mice have good taste in flight simulators. I just hope they never have to pilot a cargo full of cheese ;D 8)

"At first, the simulated plane drifts randomly. But the neural network slowly learns; currently, the brain can control the pitch and roll of the simulated craft in most weather conditions, including storms and hurricane-force winds."................hurricane force winds eh? I'll have to give that a try ...............mmmm  me'thinks I smell a rat somewhere. ;D

I don't get it.  How do they even know what they are controlling?  Do they know up from down or left from right?   ???

Technically, they don't know.  They are just responding to stimuli, and by banking a the proper direction the stimulus is reduced.
