Driver Fined for Cramming Pony in Hatchback

Thu Oct 21,11:37 AM ET   Oddly Enough - Reuters

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch police fined the driver of small hatchback car after spotting a Shetland pony crammed in the back, police said on Thursday.

"The small Shetland pony had no room to move and his head was pressed against the window," police said. A woman on the back seat held the animal by a rope.

Police fined the 42-year-old German driver of the Volkswagen Polo 220 euros ($277.1) for improper transport of the animal, just bought on a local Dutch market.

"Once the driver has obtained an export certificate, the pony can go to Germany," police said.

It was lucky to get a German owner, if it had been French or Belgian he'd have been steak before he reached the car ;D

You might be surprised what you can get in a Mini too. This the good old classic Mini, not one of them new-fangled BMWs.
Getting as many people into a Mini has always been regarded as a fun thing to do. In Brisbane, Australia students claimed a world record when 46 of them crammed themselves in a Mini. In Scandinavia a baby elephant was persuaded to sit inside a Mini

Very off topic but has anyone seen the new "Smart Car". It makes the Mini look like a Mini Van.

Smart cars have been very popular around here for a long time. Lots of small businesses use them nowadays as they're ideal for parking in town. They look very natty with a matching trailer. I have a photo if you wish to see it. ;)

Found these after a quick surf.

It's a two door hatchback with a four cylinder diesel engine mounted below the rear cargo compartment. Gets good mileage and is just as fast as any other car. It does beg the questions, how well is it in an accident?, and how good does it handle in the winter?  :P

Apparently they're roomy & comfortable inside. Only problem is the lack of luggage space - hence the matching trailer. This seems to defeat the object of having it in the first place. ::) You might be better off with your Honda. IMHO

You can fit more into a mini than you'll ever fit into a smart car. When my mum was at college they would fit five people and a cello into a mini everyday. You couldn't fit two people and a packet of peanuts in a Smartcar.  :P

We've got lots of those Smarts here. Those things are bloody quick. 130, left lane - no problem!  :o
But the've also got their problems: Instability, too expensive and not even that economical.
