..aimed mainly at members of "The Elderly Gentleman's Flying Club"... 8)...!
...but slightly "tubby" members may be interested as well... ;)...!

Hello all...!

Now I know what you are thinking...
What the flippin' heck is he going on about now...?
So...
On the tele' during the week was an advertisement by LLoyds Pharmacists, (Chemist's shop), for a free-bee blood pressure and diabetes check.
Now you all know me, "FREE", is one of my all-time favourite words..!
So...
Off I pop to the lady chemist, who wraps a pad around my arm, and blows it up by means of an air pump.
I sit there watching the numbers on the display getting larger and larger.
Finally the machine stops with a "ding", like a microwave oven, and the lady chemist looks at the readings and takes a very large intake of breath...!
"Wow!", she says...!
She repeats the process, and the result is even higher...!
"This is not good, Mr. Fosbery. Make an appointment to visit your doctor, IMMEDIATELY!..."
"The reading should be 140/85 for your age, yours is 212/102"...!
So...!
Off I pop to the surgery to see the nice nurse lady...
I smile at her, give her a cuddle, as I do, and she blows my arm up again, watching the never-ending increase in numbers on the display.
Another "ding", and it all goes very quiet, for a long time....
"Well?", I ask...
"232/121", she says...
"Should I be dead?", I ask..No reply...!
"Lie down on the bed", she says.
Now this sounds like an excellent version of alternative therapy to me, until she sticks probes all over me, and plugs me into a heart monitor machine, to check the condition of my heart.
"What's it like?", I ask....No reply...!
"I'll give you a prescription to get some "Atenolol" 500mg tablets, take one a day, and pop back in a fortnights time for another check".
"Will I live that long?", I ask...Still no reply...!

Now you all know me, the amazingly healthy eating, (meat, fruit and veg), non smoking*, stress free, laid-back, happy-go-lucky chap that I am, who never gets anything wrong with him, and only needs to visit the doctor once every 25 years, can still be un-aware of under-lying blood pressure problems until it's too late...!

If it hadn't been for an advertised, free blood pressure check, I would never have known...!

I could suddenly die without warning, and you lot wouldn't have to put up with me anymore...
...but that's not going to happen, if I can help it...
...trust me...!
LOL...!

At the moment I am forced into eating so much healthy rabbit food and fish, etc, to cure the problem, that I've now got the choice to either live in a rabbit hole, or join the goldfish in the pond down at the bottom of the flippin' garden...!
...Arrrrggghhhh...!
LOL...!

So...a peek on the internet informs us that high blood pressure and diabetes are the biggest killers in the developed world every year..!

Cheers all...I don't want you to get all worried..
..so have a nice day... ;)...!
LOL...LOL...LOL... ;D..... ;D...!

Paul.

P.S. *Before anyone mentions "Vino" consumption....I call it "Happy Fluid", and it does the trick...LOL...!
P.P.S. Weight is fine, (5ft-7ins, 166lbs), and diabetes check was O.K.!
P.P.P.S.....more news later...hopefully... ::).... ;D...!

Paul, you're a treasure. ;) That's one of the funniest things I've read for a long time.* I'm sitting here giggling my head off before I realise that it's actually quite serious.

Now, I'm no medical type person & have no idea what 232/121 means or if it's as serious as they would have you believe. I reckon that if I took advantage of this free offer they would tell me I'm already dead. ::)

Take care old chap. We need you around here.

*PS. I think you missed your vocation. You should have been a comedy scriptwriter. Be worth millions by now.

High blood pressure is defined as having a systolic blood pressure of 140mm Hg or higher (top number) and/or diastolic pressure (bottom number of 90mmHg or higher for most people.

Systolic/diastolic

Complicated stuff (unless you deal with it every day)...

Hi Paul, well yup the pressure is a little high there, but probably you won't die in the next 5 mins, so relax ;)
Remember doctors love to think they are God!!! So being enigmatic (read never giving you any information/a straight answer) is all part of that...
Here is a handy wee link which explains about blood-pressure and healthy eating (I know you eat properly ;))

Now just go for a nice relaxing flight around The Bay and you'll feel much better.

Good lord! ::)  That's a might over what you should have.  Me granda's been ill as of late with much the same issues, and I found that there are many different causes of this, but the worst one was--DUM DUM DUM--inactivity!

So maybe you should try jogging (or in your case, maybe huffing) to your next destination, instead of winging it . . . ;D

Best of luck, Foz. ;)

I wouldn't think that would be the best idea with a pressure like that. I'm no doctor and never claim to be but common sense tells me with a blood pressure that high the last thing you would want to do is anything that makes your heart work harder! Worth looking into.

Hope all goes well Fozzer! Take care and eat the rabbit food! Like already mentioned we need you around here, you make everyone else look a little more sane!  ;D

Hi Paul...I still do my aircrew medical every six months as required to keep my ratings.
Now at least every second visit my BP is just above normal, I think it is because of the fee the buggers charge ;DLOL.
Every second time the doc ask me if I am sticking to my diet and I reply yes, I eat my diet then my regular meal.
I can't recall the last time I was ill so my system must be working.
But, don't fool around with blood pressure, follow his advice and looking forward to looking you and Doug and some of the chaps up when I venture from the colony in 2005 :)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Those big jets are really stressfull to fly, so my advice is to keep flying your little props around the country to relieve stress ;D
