You know, when I was a kid, we had 3 TV stations; 5,8, and 13.

What's really amazing, is how fast technology has advanced in the past forty - fifty years.

During my life there have been things appearing like PCs, CDs, DVDs etc.
Imagine what things have appeared during Fozzers :o The wheel, history (all of it), silicon implants (Pauls favourite) ;D

I don't even remember my family HAVING car seats and we had six kids!

We had no car, let alone car seats. No TV either. You don't miss what you never had & I'm sure we appreciated life all the more without all these luxuries. I had a blissfully happy childhood & wouldn't change a thing. I'm not convinced all this technology is necessarily an improvement.

I'm sure we can recount many such experiences (I thought the appearance of the disposable BiC pen was fantastic!).  I'm constantly amazed that my father, (1907-1990) lived through the biggest period of technological evolution ... from the dawn of the aviation to having men on the moon and in space regularly - and he tool all in stride.

I remember my Mom having to go to the bank on Friday so we'd have enough cash for the weekend.  If you didn't make your withdrawal on Friday you couldn't get cash and had to pay with a check.  ATM?  Credit card?  It's the little things that have made life convenient.

Heck, when my dad brought home our first PC it didn't have a hard drive.  We had to load DOS and THEN load MSFS (1.0) from a floppy.  And some people think life was difficult before no-CD...

I'm a modern guy ;) 17 8)  but I remember ten years ago we had an old Amstrad. Have no idea of the specs.... but we loaded games from a tape recorder! :o I remember we did have floppys which went into the keyboard and the computer didn't shut down - u just switched it off. Don't know where the actual computer was either - there was no box. Just a monitor and a keyboard! I guess it was underneath the keyboard.. ::)

Lol

I thought it was great - I've been playing computer games for years, but never touched a flight sim until  three years ago. Flight Unlimited II was my first sim, beats MS98 anyday.

Cheers,

Ben

You're right. Even though there's some good shows on the tv, part of me hates it. It's created an addiction that i'm trying to fight. When I enlist, i'm gonna have to learn to live without it

I once went to a cash point (ATM) to find that it had performed an illegal operation and would have to be closed down. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Infact, I once saw a railway timetable screen do that, get rebooted and I watched windows 3.1 run through scandisk about five times. ;D ;D

Pong is only around 25 to 28 years old ;D

And for the record, I still have rabbit ears on my TV, only because I watch so little of it, maybe 3 to 4 hours a week. I got rid of cable television about 3 years ago and have not missed being a potato, though I am looking at an HDTV probably around 43 to 50" that I can hang on my wall behind my PC that is PC VGA compatible for movie watching and flying in my sim!!!

I too have rabbit ears! (on the TV!) only thing I need as I don't spend much time watching TV.
I bought my mom a satilitte system (yes I'm 36 and still live with mommy!, actually she lives with me needs someone to care for her) but I use it very little especially when they decided to remove Discovery Wings and want to charge a extra $20 dollars a month for it.
Everytime I turn it on it is nothing but 120 channels of paid programming! Trust me I know I "pay" for it every month! To me it makes sense for the rabbit ears TV is free (after inital cost) and there is less "paid programming" on free TV than on the crap you pay for! ::)
