Snow Tires

Well I just heard that the Government is thinking about making snow tires compulsory.
Now I am not sure whether that is the Ontario Provincial Government or the Canadian Federal Government.
According to my reliable source, my barber who heard it from so and so yesterday, and I was informed was a reliable source that this will cut back on winter related accidents.
I remember driving back in the 1950s snow tires were always used, and in some parts of the Province of Ontario studded snow tires were allowed.
Then the college boys designed all weather radial tires, so one only needed one set of tires per vehicle.
Are we going forwards or backwards with our technology, is this another whim of the car insurance companies, another money grab by the tire industry or one of our trusted, knowledgeable government folk?
Now my theory and I want you folks to spread it who live and drive in areas that have severe weather changes and do receive that lovely white stuff we call snow is:
On all your tires including your spare, change the summer air for winter air, most gas stations still have free air and I said most.  Now if this catches on they might have to charge for winter air as I think it is heavier.  Now I think this is something that should be sent to the college boys, the insurance companies, leaders of industry and our local knowledgeable politicians.
Now you will notice I stayed away from cold air and hot air, cold air might make the vehicle to heavy and it could skid on the ice further, hot air might also make the vehicle to light and also cause a control problem.
Well folks, just thought I would let you know what is happening in the colony here, by the way does anyone know if they use special air in aeroplane tires?

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
P.S. I am sure someone is going to send me down to the barn to stand in the corner after this ;DLOL

Well Doug, we don't get much of that white stuff around here, thank goodness.

I'm full of hot air myself but I never knew you could get summer & winter air, let alone hot & cold air. ::) ???

They generally use compressed nitrogen these days for health & safety reasons. This is basically the same as compressed air with the oxygen content removed. I have no idea if there are different types. Never even thought about it before. Nitrogen is nitrogen to me. I learn something new here every day. ::) ;)

Indeed - if we had more than a week of snow the country would descend into oblivion - most people just wouldn't be able to cope...

Tupolev: Low-pressure tyres, the strut covers do the rest if it's deep snow

AN-24: is replaced by Yak-40 if available, as that one has more ground clearance

This is news to me. There is proof that all season radials are just as good as snow tires in many cases. Snow tires cost a lot and are hard on gas. You don't need them for city driving. They're also very expensive. With gas prices and car insurance the way they are, who can afford them?

In my part of the world, we can decipher the green valve caps to indicate that the tire in question is indeed inflated with Nitrogen......on the island anyway... 8)

There was something on the news about that a couple of weeks ago. Costco is filling tires with nitrogen now. It has some advantages over regular air. Namely your not just paying for regular air.  >:(
