Freedom of speech or respect for the sensitivity of others?

this place has been free of politics for a long time for a very good reason. past incidents have caused a number of good members to leave and many an argument has been caused. There is no reason politics should be discussed here, and it keeps this place enjoyable.

I'm afraid your wasting your time. Politics discussion will NEVER be allowed on this forum. It's not worth the flame wars that would inevitably crop up. People tend to be quite passionate about politics. This is an international forum and could spark bad feelings among many people in many nations. This is a Flight Simulator Forum (a sim GAME). Political discussion has no place here. This type of topic almost destroyed another flight sim forum and the site it is associated with. Pete has far to much time and money invested in this forum and Simviation to risk losing it over such a controversial topic.

There is a multitude of forums on the web that are dedicated to politics.

#1 - This, like many other website forums, is a PRIVATE forum, so "Freedom of Speech" is not an issue.  We have only such "FREEDOM" of speech as is allowed within the posted forum rules, AND the judgment of the forum owner.

#2  - It is not so much a "respect for the sensitivity of others" as it is maintaining a cordial environment for the discussion of flight-simulator and other related topics (even if discussing music and autos is a stretch), in a casual and light hearted manner.

Does anyone remember Fozzer telling us what happened to a San Francisco news forum when the politics got out of hand a while back? Didn't it get so bad that the forums were actually shut down?

Why would we want to talk about politics here? I just watched a show I recorded and during every commercial break I had to fast-forward through campaign ads of politicians bashing each other. I'm sick of it

Freedom of speech is all very well but if a few more people showed a little respect for each other & their beliefs this world would be a far better place. IMHO

PS. Pete organised a vote on this subject some time ago & the decision was NO politics. The same applies to religion. These 2 subjects cause more arguments & bad feelings than any other.

It was at the start of the Iraq war, so you can imagine what a flare-up that caused between the various groups...!
It got really bad, and the Forum was finally shut down by Kron4...thank goodness... ...!

This is exactly what we've been discussing in my Canadian Democracy class. People are unwilling to hear people's views, or their views are based on selfish emotional responses and not on hard facts. This forum is supposed to be about airplanes. Pure and simple. I think it would be nice to get some educated political discussions going but there are a lot of people who just won't handle that.

If you do want to talk about politics, there are many forums out there. Sim-Outhouse for example has Tek's Outhouse which is where the political talk goes.  

No.  This is a gaming/hobby forum.

As the other responders have indicated, political discussions invariably create conflicts.  We have a History section that has created a little bit of tension.

I would rather see our most heated debate be over Boeing vs. Airbus.

If you want political discussion there are plenty of other fora for that, and I am a member and regular contributor to some of them.

Ijineda politics along with religion were made taboo around here a fair while back. I know this posting is in response to both Pete (the webmaster and owner of SimV) and I asking you to remove your little GW banner from your Signature area.
A couple of weeks back someone had a Kerry one, alas sooner or later religion or politics rubs someone the wrong way and everyone starts whipping out their six-shooters and blasting away. So in the interest of all parties we don't have political/religious discussions here, and people that try and start them soon find themselves banned...
However if you want to discuss the merits of various chocolates I'm your man

Not being here a full year as yet,
and
not contributing a hell of a lot as this is the first and only forum I am or have been associated with,
and
I am trying to learn more about simulator flying, the way you folks are invoved...and believe me you are a very talented group of people and on a scale of one to ten I am just a one,
and
I agree that Religion and Politics have their own special place and time to be debated or discussed and myself, I don't believe it should be on this forum, but that is my opinion,
and
there should be an English teacher around as this is probably the longest sentence I have wrote. LOL

Now what I would like to see is:
only bi-planes and tri-planes with a scattering of light general aircraft like the C150 or Otter, none of these suck and blow fighters or airliners...okay I have caused enough trouble now LOL  will go down to the barn and stand in the corner.

I just googled for Political Forum and got a few sites, so yeah, there are places out there. One of the first one's on the list was...

I don't think introducing a Political Forum here will be a good idea. As some of the other members have already stated, there are many people who visit this forum on a daily basis, and it would only be a matter of time before some of them left!
