Star Trek Movies....Which one?

Postby Professor Brensec » Sat Sep 25, 2004 8:13 pm

I suppose this is history, given that the Star Trek movies are 'historical' from an 'age' point of view (especially the older ones with the TOS team).

Anyway, this may have been done before, so forgive me if I'm treading old ground.

What is the best (or your favourite) Star Trek Movie.

Mine is "First Contact". No specific reason. I just like the time travel/paradox type scenarios and I also feel the TNG team are the best (closely followed by Voyager)

;D :D ;)

I'm not really sure which is my favorite, they all kinda hold a special place for me . . . :D (except for the last two, they were kinda lame)

I guess First Contact really is my top.  It holds to the true nature of what Star Trek was intended for in the first place.  Many of the movies and series shows became far too melodramatic, focussing too much on the relationships between the characters (much like a soap opera :P) rather than the "seeking out of new life and new civilizations".  Especially DS9! ::)

But I will always remember First Contact as a great movie.  It had a great premise, great supporting actors and probably the greatest line in the history of Star Trek:

Zephram Cochrane: "So, you guys are all astronauts on some kinda . . . star trek?" ;D ;)

The Undiscovered Country.

It and "The Motion Picture" are the only two that are true to the original series goals of being a reflection of modern society.

Action is great...and I love it...but Star Trek was always about more the action.

first contact, followed closely by nemesis, anyone who watches nemesis once and says its a bad movie is prob correct but anyone who watches it a few times and still says its bad has either never watched the series or really doesnt get the movie at all, kind of like the matrix

I liked 'Nemesis'. But I must admit, it isn't even my 2nd favourite. I'm wondering, if they do another TNG one, if they'll bring Data back somehow (or has Brent Spiner ruled it out??).
They can easily do it. You'll recall the episode where they went back to Samuel Clememts time, and a 'side plot' of that double episode was that they found Data's head in a cave. So, all they would have to do is go back in time to just before the head was found in that episode, and they'd have a new Data (after all, the Positronic Brain is the only hard bit, that they can't duplicate). But I digress........

As for Matrix.......I liked the first Movie. A clever plot and interesting in every way. But when I hired the second one, I really tried hard to watch it, but I just couldn't figure out what the hell was going on. And it was so boring that I couldn't be bothered trying to figure it out. So, I'm sorry, I'm not a matrix fan.

While on the subject of other movies. I discovered one the other night, which I absolutely love. Probably the best movie I've seen in a long time. The newer version of 'The Time Machine'. The Speilberg one. It was not much like the original with 'OUR' Rod but it was an interesting variation. And of course, the effects were far superior to the 1960 version.  ;D ;)

Most of the TNG cast have voiced their doubts about a new sequel.  Apparently, it seems a little doubtful to them, so I wouldn't count on it.

But you might expect something from either Voyager or the new Enterprise.  Voyager is highly played out (with the Borg being almost destroyed) but Enterprise is a whole nother entity.  Its almost as if the original Enterprise wanted NOTHING to do with the next few incarnations . . . hmmmmmm . . . makes you wonder.   . .

OK, firstly i am not a huge matrix fan either Bren way too complicated for my liking in a movie.
There is a new star trek movie in the works, they have only said that much, i believe they are trying to convince the next gen cast for one confirmed ending, i think basically they are all sick of the questioning about will there be another. As for Spiner, i will be bringing in a spoiler here but he is going to have a role in Enterprise this season, so it looks like he's got no problem with the franchise still, there are just so many ways to bring back data if there is another it will happen. The voyager cast wont be back, maybe a few cameos in other series but they were fed-up with star trek well before the last series. And as for enterprise as a movie, ahahah, ok sorry i had to:) wont happen, the cast just isnt high enough on the draw ability, the less than good acting doesnt help, and most fans and non fans alike wouldnt accept anyone less than Picard or Kirk in charge of a ship called enterprise on the big screen.

At the risk of being repetitive, I too am going to say First Contact is my favourite Trek movie. However it is the only TNG movie I really like. I don

Don't get me wrong Craig old pal, I did enjoy it first time at the cinema, but I read the book ages before the film and I think I was a tad dissapointed that they didn't include everything I read. Or maybe it is just that I've not seen it in ages and am not recalling everything. I though the space action scenes were fantastic. Maybe it's time I dug out the DVD  ;D

I'm wondering, if they do another TNG one, if they'll bring Data back somehow (or has Brent Spiner ruled it out??).
Remember the memory transfer Data did with B4? And at the end of the movie B4 was singing the song Data sang at the wedding? I think, if there is another movie, that's how they will bring "Data" back.
So, all they would have to do is go back in time to just before the head was found in that episode, and they'd have a new Data
If they get the old head of Data out of the cave, then who ever does find that cave, wouldn't call the Enterprise back to Earth, the crew would not be investigating, so on and so forth... and Data would not get injured. So his head wouldn't be there.

Or maybe I should have just said, it would create a paradox.

Anyway, my favorite is a toss up between the "Wrath of Kahn" and "First Contact"
