BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - An overzealous policeman inadvertently interrupted a street theater play in the capital when he tackled an actor posing as a purse-snatcher.
The play was part of a campaign to encourage people injured while performing good deeds to ask for assistance from the government's Department of Rights and Liberties Protection, the Bangkok Post reported Sunday.
But when police Sgt-Maj. Chairat Khaengsarikorn heard a woman's cries for help after a man stole her purse, he tackled the thief, who was actually local actor Nares Buaket, said the Post.
``I didn't know it was a play,'' said Chairat, on hand to provide security for Justice Minister Pongthep Thepkanchana, who was presiding over Saturday's event. ``I just heard a woman calling for help. I tried to hold him but he resisted. So I had to hurt him.''
Nutcharee Pliensangsri, the head of the company which produced the mini-drama, was quoted as saying the actors were well-rehearsed, ``But I didn't expect it to be so real.''

Typical film crew. When they're filming on location everything revolves around them, never mind the inconvenience. I've experienced this attitude a few times myself. A few sequences of "A Hard Days Night" were filmed at Gatwick when I worked there in the 60s & the whole place came to a standstill for several days. This was for about 30 seconds in the finished film. Most of it was while the credits were rolling at the end. My friend's bike was standing against a wall outside our workshop where he always left it.* He wasn't allowed to move it to go home to lunch as they were using it as part of the scenery. Bloody cheek.

At least we were able to see the Beatles at close quarters.

I suppose it never occurred to the director to inform the police about what they were doing. People would soon be complaining if it had been a real robbery & the poor copper had stood by & done nothing. It seems there are some situations you just can't win.

*PS. If you ever watch "A Hard Days Night" look out for my old mate Tom's pushbike in the closing sequence.
