Planespotting...

Does anyone else here do this? I do it a lot at Ohare and wondered how many more of us out there there are.
Last night I got treated to several 747's and a smattering of larger jets passing not 100 yards from the front of my car. I also got to see a A-340 blow it's landing and have to go around, which is something you don't see much at O'Hare...
I'm guessing there might be enough support for this to have a forum for it, but if not, I won't cry about it. I was also thinking about making a website for Chicago area people to talk about where to go at O'Hare, Midway, Palwaukee, etc...

I'm in Mt. Prospect, right under the Takeoff/Landing for 32R. They're about 500 - 1000 feet when they pass me. I regularly sit on my balcony with binoculars watching them. :)

I suppose you could call me a "Planespotter" as I like watching aeroplanes. The local airport at Shoreham has been my favourite haunt for over 50 years. I no longer collect the registrations as I did when I was young but take photos of them instead. I'm not interested in modern airliners (A Britannia, Viscount, DC-7 or Constellation could still make me sit up & take notice.) My preference is for warbirds & vintage light aircraft. If I see a rare bird I'm likely to go into raptures - if I can get a good photo of it I'm impossible to live with.

PS. There's still plenty of conventional spotters of all ages about. These come in all shapes, sizes, ages & gender & many have far more sophisticated equipment than we ever dreamed of.

I'm like Hagar, warbirds (especially Supermarines finest), and classic GA kites like the Tiger Moth, Stearman, or Cub put a big grin on my face.
I'm also heavily into Soviet metal, anything from an Il-2 to a Mig-29 makes me happy. Special favourites include An-2s and Mi-24Ds as I've got stick time on both

There is a spot right off 16L/R here in Denver that gets some good traffic. 16R is the longest ILS runway in the US so there are some good heavies! That is usually where the An 124 lands when it comes to pick up rockets from Lockheed.Unfortunately it is nowhere near my house. For that matter, it is not near anyones! ::)

I'm an avid plane spotter, I some times take 60-80 (digital) pictures of planes in 2 hours at airports like KLNA KPBI KMIA and KBCT. I also live on approach for KPBI runway 13 so I get to see some low flying airliners come over my house quite often.
