Turner Network Television (TNT) is set to celebrate the premiere weekend of its latest TNT Original, "Evel Knievel", with a live one-hour television event in which "Kaptain" Robbie Knievel, son of the legendary motorcyclist, will attempt a spectacular jump in the Knievel tradition on the deck of the USS Intrepid, it was announced today by Ken Schwab, senior vice president of programming for TNT and TBS . Live From New York, "Robbie Knievel Jumps the USS Intrepid", will air live on TNT Saturday, July 31, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT), the second night of TNT's premiere three-play weekend of Evel Knievel, starring George Eads, Jaime Pressly and Beau Bridges. Knievel will attempt the world's first jump over an array of military aircraft on the deck of the USS Intrepid, a former aircraft carrier docked in New York Harbor.

Should be, erm... "Interesting"... ::) But as one person said, "I hope he dosen't try the Concorde..." :P

That's disheartening.

Quite frankly I think he should keep his business where it belongs and not defile the image of the Armed Forces with these ridiculous stunts. >:(

Well, I think we can expect him to use Skyhawks or something that's real small.   personally, I'd like to see him run into the island...now that would be good

Personally, I'd like to see him run into an air intake.

I have too agree. I like too watch people do stupid things but the Intrepid is a National Landmark/Museum, correct?
Now if I even thought of going into the Smoky Mountains here and taking a motorcycle ride I could be imprisoned for up to 5 years. But yet if you are famous (or related to someone famous) you can get away with it.
This is nothing but a shamefull publicity stunt that shows total disrespect to our Armed Forces and our History! >:(

I resent that! Are you calling me a butthead?! Just because I would like to see that DOES NOT MEAN I'M STUPID! And how is that a disrespect to the armed forces? I don't see any reason why it would be! You are all being very sensitive and irrational about such a small thing!

Calm down Chomp. ;) I do detect a bit of sarcasm in Exploder's point.  But that's just me.

As far as I see it, the Armed Forces is a serious institution and as such, deserves respect on our part.  To be toying around with such, I find extremely disrespectful.  Call me radical, but we might as well have boat races around the Arizona.

I'm unfamiliar with the history of the USS Intrepid, but I imagine men perished within her bows and on her deck in any instance.  My dad, who served on the USS Wasp, lost a friend or two on her deck and saw others perish as well, I would imagine he would be quite upset if it were the USS Wasp involved in this little stunt, assuming it still existed today (it was scrapped for shaving blades, which was depressing in itself).

The big point here is he's defiling the image of the Armed Forces while achieveing nothing spectacular.  I can't imagine any aircraft with a terribly long wingspan on an aircraft carrier, past or present, with exception of an AWAC, and I'm assuming they'll be aligned wingtip to wingtip.  The same length could be jumped with a collection of buses, and even amateur cyclists can, and do, achieve this.

Most of all, I don't like people sapping fame off of the Armed Forces.

Just my two cents.

To clear a few things up about Robbie Knevil. He is as patriotic as they come! He is very respectful of the armed forces and the many others who are giving up so much. He did this jump out of respect for those who are sacrificing so much. If you were able to watch it, this really wasn't about him or his jump.
It was really about something different! He said that so many people face death every day over there and that he wanted to do this for them. Call it public relations or whatever, but jumping some aircrafts on the deck of the Intrepid, is not dis-respectful at all..... on the other hand it was very respectful!

I agree with Dave having watched the jump.  My first thoughts were the same as the rest of you, but when I watched it and heard what he said before he did it-I was very impressed.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Odd man out, I suppose.
