I recently had this discussion with a friend and was wondering what everyone on Simviation thought.  It would be interesting to see what everyone's opinion is.

Why?

This is a somewhat political issue which could very easly cause an arguement and a spam war.  For this reason, political discussions are basically banned on this forum (but sometimes allowed).

Personally I've gone for pollution, without air and water we'll die, so that is pretty much the fundamentals sorted!

People are their own worst enemy.  That and time, but you can't do anything about that. ;)

Pollution, and waste. At our current rate of annual consumption growth will most likely run out of crude oil suprisingly soon, this is no doubt a result of wasteful vehicles such as SUVs. There is no telling how many large SUVs I have seen occupied by one person, that is wasteful and senseless and it causes unnecessary pollution. Many people seem to not care that they are ruining our only habitat.  :(

The secondary problems of pollution and availability of and use of natural resources stem from what I think is the truly fundamental core problem....... over population.

The planet cannot continue to support the population demands that we are placing on it.

As natural resources become more and more precious....... people will tend to fight to have those resources.  Many experts seem to think the next big conflicts will come over water.

PS:  Interesting footnote from my recent two months in Japan.  Contrary to what most westerners believe to be true...... I was told that if the birthrate in Japan remains at the low level it currrently is at...... in about 400 years there will be no more Japanese.

Those are my sentiments as well, they however were too risky for me to be the first one to post as I have encountered strict criticism for bringing the matter up before from people who I will not name.

Yup.  Methinks that humankind even is an enemy to everything (nature and space).
