Earthquake anyone ?

Was seated at my 'Puter yesterday enjoying a quiet flightsim when I suddenly thought my joystick had become a feed-back model.
Looked out the window to see the garden swing working away - but sideways. Then we got a real nudge, a number 5 on the Richter scale, enough to get me looking for a doorway to stand-in.
No damage caused as far as I can tell but enough to bring a large tree down on a lady motorist and kill her.
A nasty experience. Anyone want to emigrate to New Zealand.? This shock was one of a series of 9, there have been 19 quakes here in July.

Weather's been nuts this week. Poor people in Peterborough which is just north-east of Toronto got flooded. My grandma has some friends out there who live right on the waterway. Haven't heard if they got flooded out though.

So you live in New Zealand? How awesome! We get quite a few quakes here in Washington State. A few years ago the Pac NW was hit by a 6.9 earthquake which did quite some damage. There was a crack left on the Capital Building in Olympia some walls and windows fell out of the buildings in Seattle, and some of the roads collapsed. (It just so happens that Seattle had a huge riot the day before) :o

I've only been in a 5.5, and that was exciting, as I was off my melon and thought the world had jumped on me to confuse my brain further in its inebriated state

We dont usually get earthquakes... well not ones that register here in the UK however a couple of years ago we had a 3.2 centred on Birmingham which is about 30 miles from where I live ... It was enough to wake me at 2am... so I can imagine how scary a big one must be.
cheers

I was in an earthquake.

But I slept through it.

I've always wanted to be in a catastrophe of some sort, and somehow everytime I'm cheated. I slept through an earthquake, and Hurricane Allison - the worst storm since the Storm of 1900 - happened while I was at Chile. Actually, both happened while I was at Chile. The most catastrophic thing I've witnessed was about half an inch o' snow.

But I was in Canada.

Tho' maybe I should mind the saying: Be careful what you wish for...

Looks like there was a fairly decent quake in Ken and Wendy's neck of the woods today.
[quote]Second quake in four days hits B.C. coast
Broadcast News
Monday, July 19, 2004
VANCOUVER -- Another earthquake has rocked the B.C. South Coast, the second in four days.
The Pacific Geoscience Centre at Sidney measured the shaker just after 1 am Pacific time at magnitude 6.1.
Like the one early last Thursday, the quake was centred off the west coast of Vancouver Island in the Nootka Sound area.
Seismologist John Cassidy says it was felt in communities across Vancouver Island and as far away as Greater Vancouver and B.C.'s Sunshine Coast.
He says several small aftershocks also have been recorded.
Other than some items being knocked from shelves, there have been no reports of damage.
Last week's quake measured magnitude 5.8.

Wow! Another earthquake off B.C? I don't remember feeling anything because Sidney is only a few miles away from were I live. Anyway I have also experienced a hurricane, flood, blizzard, volcanic eruption, had to evacuate the house once due to Tsunami danger, and a severe thunderstorm (complete w/ tornado)

Don't you just love living in earthquake country.... I haven't felt one for a while here in San Francisco. Last one I felt was a short one. I was playing Halo and sitting on the floor when it happened. You really get it when you're right on the ground, even if it's only a 5. something or smaller.

I've been in a 5.5 earthquake and was quite startled when it happened since I was standing on top of a ladder and I wound up taking quite a tumble
