Computer Pilot Magazine

Any of you subscribe to this magazine?
If so you probably just got the newest issue, without the Cover CD but a lame letter explaining why they will no longer be putting it with it.
All in a effort to cut cost (for them not us!) they decided to discontinue the Cover CD.
I personally started to subscribe to this monthly because of it. Allot of stuff put on them (which you can download almost anywhere) but I'm on dial up and some downloads just aren't feasable.
They also say that they have something better to offer for the replacement of the Cover CD, get this a WEB SITE! Where if your a subscriber you can go to and download add-ons for flight sims!!  How original!!! It's about time!!

DUMB ASSES! There are already thousands of sites to go for add ons that you don't have to pay $50 for a magazine subscription!!

I know you might be thinking calm down, it is just a CD, but that isn't the only thing that ticks me off, it is the fact that I pay $50 for a magazine subscription (which at the time advertises the cover cd) and half into my subscription they take away something I already paid for!!!
Do I get a rebate? A lower subscription rate? NO! I get access to a web site just like this one except Pete doesn't charge $50. (but he should I get more out of this site than I ever did out of that magazine!)

Oh well! I'm not the only person who has loss money on this, so will all the people that advertised thier work on those CDs, which many after seeing thier product on the discs I bought from later. And so will the future advertisers who place Ads in the magazine, because I will no longer see them.

So am I the only one ticked off at someone who charges you money then slowly takes the stuff already paid for away???

I used to subscribe to Model Airplane News but I cancelled it because it was more ads than anything else. I read FlyRC now and sometimes   Model Airplane News but I just go and get them at the mall bookstore.

I've heard of Computer Pilot and PC Pilot but I've never seen them. They probably sell them in the bigger bookstores. The best place to get that stuff is the World's Biggest Bookstore. It's in Toronto and it has absolutely everything. It has a big section dedicated to aviation.

That's the Canadian way my dear Fret. There's a long list of stuff we pay for but don't get. I'd list it but that treds into political territory.  :P

I bought the last issue of computer pilot.  I wasn't too impressed.  I thought it was okay, but $8.00 seems a bit much for a magazine.  It may seem odd, but if they charged a bit less, they might sell more and make more money.  As it is though, I did like seeing all the various payware stuff out there in an easy to browse format...

Fretnstuff, its too bad that Computer Pilot is discontinuing its Cover CD, espically after you've subscribed to the magazine.
But in all honesty Computer Pilot offered the Cover CD free of charge, the magazine would have still cost $8.00 without the CD.  Many computer magazines offer CDs but charge additionally for them.  I think that if Computer Pilot were to have kept the Cover DC it would of had to raise the price of the magazine.
As for the web site, well it would be nice to have one location to go to when your making a search.
Still, like any magazine, some issues are better than others or offer articles that are of great interest to some readers but not to others.  The one good thing that will come out of this is that the magazine will no longer come rapped in a plastic bag and we can thumb through it at the news stand to see if we want to puchase it or not.
Try to enjoy you subscription Fret, I'm sure you'll still find things of interest to you in the Mag.

Well I wrote a letter to the publisher about my dis -pleasure in thier decision. But I don't expect it to make any differance.
Like Dread said $8 bucks is allot for what you get.
The magazine has advantages but since the first issue to the most recent it has went downhill.
I fly only FS9 and the first issue I got had about 80% FS9 related articles, but the last few are focusing on the other sims X-plane,Lock-on,Micro-flight etc, other sims that aren't quite as popular. That is where I think they are losing money. They are making a magazine (each is 84 pages) to please everyone not just the majority of those who are FS9ers.
I think the wise move would have been to take a survey to see what the readers wanted, what they look for, what sim they fly, what they expect to get for thier $8.
Yes I like the articles of the new software/hardware, the hints and tips but I don't need a 5 page article to know how to fly a airplane upside down in LOMC.
It was said that the cover cd was given as something free, well in my opinion when I paid for that subscription I paid for the magazine, the postage, the envelope it was mailed in and the cd.
So this is the same as if M$ decided that they sold enough copies of FS9 that it was time to save money, so all of the sudden they take away your ability to install add-ons,download Real-world weather, take away the ATC etc. Would you buy it?? No.
So in the end in a attempt to save money this company will be losing it because people like me won't see the reason to pay the $8 per issue. So myself will not renew my subscription so there is a minimum $50 that they just lost.
