If anyone receives e-mail from doug@simviation.com please delete it without reading it. Although you can mail me on this address I cannot use it to mail you. Any replies will come via my ordinary AOL account.

This has come to my notice as I've started receiving a lot of mail from this address myself. Why anyone would think that even I am stupid enough to mail myself without realising it is beyond my comprehension.

This is not quite true. It's a very dodgy issue that I've been discussing a lot recently. You and people that you email a lot may recieve emails apparently from you or an address that 'could' be yours.

The lastest bugs, worms & viruses infect your email program and send spam emails from addresses that are, or could be, yours.

I for example, have the address jonathan@livescripts.net. And when I send mail my name comes up as Jonathan S. So people who I email a lot get spam email from addresses like:

jonathan@livescripts.net
jonathan.s@livescripts.net
jon-s@livescripts.net
even though some of these addresses do not exist.

Basically what I am saying is that not many people will get email from doug@simviation.com, but mostly from their own email account.

Thanks Jon but I think you're missing my point. Apart from this spam mail I mentioned receiving being a darned nuisance it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I simply delete it without reading it as I do with any mail without a recognisable subject line. What I find strange is the sudden increase in mail which I assume is spam being sent to me from my own contact address posted on this site.

This was intended as a general warning to anyone receiving mail from that specific address & thinking it's from me or anyone connected with Simviation. It's impossible for me to use it to send mail so I can guarantee 100% that I didn't send it. I rarely mail anyone these days & certainly nothing like I used to. Genuine mail is all sent from my normal AOL account.

Hi Doug,

I did not phrase my above post very well.

Better put: some of the lastest spammers use techniques to send you spam, and then change the From address to your own.

Therefore the spam you are getting is:
1) Not from you.
2) Not going to be received by anyone else.

I think that's what you meant.

PS. May I ask what is in the emails you're receiving from 'yourself'?

Maybe you're right but people have told me they received mail from that address in the past. They opened it believing it was from me. As I said before, I have no way of sending anything to anyone from that address. Nor has anyone else to my knowledge. Not genuine mail anyway.

You can ask all you like. I have no idea as I delete it without opening it or reading it.

I suspect it's either spam or, even worse, a virus.

Remember gang, it's very easy to spoof an email addy in the sender field.  In less than 2 seconds I can send you an email that looks like it's from billgates@microsoft.com.  It doesn't take any fancy work.  It's done as fast as I can type it.

Moral of the story:  Even if you THINK you recognize the sender, don't open anything you're not expecting, particularly if it's got an attachment of any type.  It only takes a second to verify whether or not the person you think it is really sent it to you.
