Suffice to say i hope that referee never gets to have another game in his life. Wasnt Englands best game but they still both deserved the win and had the win. :-/ :-/

I totally and utterly agree ......... I'm no football fan but my Wife is and I have just sat through the most nailbiting hour of my life .... All of it totally unnecessary. That game was over after 90 mins and England had won it. Begs the question ...... was that ref paid  :-/ :-/ :-/

Just found out post match.
That FIFA were aware that the penalty spots on that pitch where inadiquate and needed replacing B4 the match!!!

What makes you think that England were "PUSHED"?

sadly not much FIFA can do, it was upto UEFA to sort it out in the end.
One thing i noticed on the dissallowed goal was, the portugese player actually pushed one of the england players.
Like you i am not a football fan to any extent. But had to watch, Beckham needs to stop taking penalties.

When will you all realise that all these big football contests are rigged and that we were destined to lose as we were up against the host nation who were playing on home ground.

And finally we will see the backs of all these bloody england flags on the cars.

Well said Woody. It was a foregone conclusion & after all it's only a game. As Fozzer so eloquently puts it, 22 overpaid grown men pretending to be boys & chasing a pig's bladder around a field for 90 minutes or so. Nice work if you can get it.

Maybe now we can get back to normal. The sooner the better as far as I'm concerned.

I'm lost, what exactly happened???

England lost to Portugal in the first quarterfinal of Euro 2004 so they are out.  The game was 2-2 after 120mins so they went to penalties.  Supposedly the penalty spot was not in great shape which caused Becks to miss.  

The ref called an England goal that would have won them the match invalid because supposedly the goalkeeper was fouled( saw one pic and it didn't look like it).  

In addition, Portugal were diving like crazy, and the refereeing was generally unfair.

And i know all that w/o watching the match!  

P.S.  What is wrong with Becks?   RM is surely not helping his game.

I didn't watch the game & didn't know who missed that penalty until reading this topic. It strikes me that any professional footballer worth his salt (let alone the England captain famous for spot kicks) should be able to hit the goal from the penalty spot 12 yards in front of it even if it's not exactly in the right spot. Typically they will find any excuse for losing.

I just hope this is not used to justify yet more violence by our so-called football fans.

firstly, i dont care about the loss on penalties. It shouldnt have gone there in the first place. Beckham missing was no surprise he has missed the last 3 penalties he's taken and is useless at them.
Its the clear unfairness from the referee thats annoyed me.

I agree with Woodlouse, the whole thing was rigged. David Beckham missed a penalty! He kicked the ball straight at the goalie in the last game!!!
A ball is controlled from the foot, not the surface it sits on. The Ref was a nervous wreck, so he was paid off.

When are England going to stop being pushed around by europe???????
If I had been Sven or Becks, I would have put my men on the touchline until the ref was removed.

I hope now, that we will see some fresh talent in the England side, and get rid of all the film stars and glory hunters.

Yes gaztop, but if the ball moved right before he struck it like TV proved, it might change the trajectory.  Becks is the best striker of the ball in the world, and I can't see why he is missing these.  Barthez just guessed correctly, and if you watched the Croatian penalty goal against him, he very nearly had that one too, so blame Fabien.

I guess I'm going to support...Sweden or Holland...
