its all about the cost. As airshow regulars will have noticed they now have red arrows stalls all over the place, all the money made here is used to fund the team. It would be a huge loss, of what many consider the best display team on the planet. But they do need to look into a cost manager. The team spends out for each of their pilots on some highly unnessicary accesories including

I haven't seen the papers today. I don't believe anything they print especially on Sundays but knowing how politicians think there might be some truth in it. They had a special Red Arrows reunion at Kemble today. I thought about going but decided against it. There's no mention of them disbanding. http://www.kembleairday.com/home.html

OK to clear a few things up. The red arrows are given a set budget each year by the MOD, because their planes are getting older the replacement parts and the work is becoming more expensive, sadly the budget hasnt been adjusted for this. What they need is the new hawk, i would like to see the typhoon as the aircraft but that would be against tradition and finish the budget all together. I may be wrong but isnt the BBMF mainly private funding or some heritage grant?
If you want to help out the arrows buy some merchandise try to find an address you can write to that will agree to funding them partially. And beg them to give up a pair of their Revo's every year:)

LOL Are they still going? ;D

Don't panic Mr Mainwaring :o - not yet anyway. Let's find out the facts first. I wouldn't believe anything you read in the newspapers. ::)

PS. I don't know where you get your information from Craig. You seem to know a lot about this that I've never seen mentioned before.

First part LOL ;D

second part my dad has a few friends on the team, one a mechanic and one a back up pilot. Just to clear up one thing, the watch they get is only for pilots and the pilot gets only one, each new pilot will get one as a presentation for joining the team. But you need to ask, isnt a cheaper watch an option when your running out of money. The glasses they get are supplied by Revo, a retail value of

i know. I just also think the typhoon would be a cool aircraft to use. Thats why i said they should look to upgrade the planes to the new hawk, the old ones are being taken out of service slowly, and the new one is fitted with a nice glass cockpit to go with it.

You should know what I think of the Typhoon by now. The least said about that the better. LOL :o

I don't see what difference a nice glass cockpit makes to a display aircraft. I thought we were talking about cutting costs here. ??? ??? ???

the new hawk is that, new. not just the glass cockpit, its more efficient, more manuverable and cheaper to run. I believe the upgrade in this case wouldnt cut to much ito the budget if at all this is something i dont know for sure so i am guessing here. But in the long run it would work out cheaper.

The reason the Red Arrows use the Hawk is because is symbolises all things british. It's an aircraft that was designed and made, including all the parts in the UK and so what better for the UK's premier display team?

argh LOL:) I didnt say there was anything wrong with the hawk, i just expressed my interest in seeing the typhoon as a possible replacement, i know it wont happen but its nice to dream ;D however the hawks they now use were put into service in 1985 and are starting to show their age, so what better replacement than the new hawk.
