and seen the C47's fly over in formation!
Means it is time for me to head to Knoxville, today is the big day, to see all the work of myself and the other volunteers pay off.
The WWII hanger is complete, planes will be arriving soon and the Salute to Service Memorial will begin in a couple of hours.
And the C47's that will be doing the fly-by just pasted over head!! What a beautiful sound to hear first thing in the morning!!
Photos will be posted in the next day or so, and if anyone will be in the Knoxville, TN area today make a trip to Island Home Airport (DKX) to see all the planes and honor our Veterans!

Well it was a long day indeed! And I'm tired but all went great! Weather couldn't have been better! Sunny 80* no rain at all, which we feared because afternoon thunderstorms had been the norm all week.
Not many aircraft that said they would come did very disapointing but we still had a few. T6 Texan, our DC3, a couple C47 showing off, some Stearmans, Piper Cubs , many men and women in uniform all branches of the Military displayed etc. A great time and learning experiance.
I talk with some pilots that flew on D-day (B17, C47, B25) and I can tell you I wish I had a tape recorder unreal stories from the people who lived it.
The highlight was a re-enactment of how the C47's got into Normandy with the help of P47's. The people at the Warbird Museum in my home town were kind enough to come buy with two P47's (one of which I posted photos of before) the flew in too "clear the area" followed by the awesome C47's!
many pictures were taken so I will be posting some soon!
I also did see for the first time a Scotish Aviation Bulldog, not the one I asked about earlier but another, owned by the Swedish military and painted the same as when they owned it! Nice guy who has it and he said a ride in it was in the bear future Unfortanately my memory cards for the camera were filled but I'll be going back today in hopes to get pictures of it, very neat aircraft, and the pilot stated it was the best plane he has ever flowen! He is a pilot for the TN National Guard, so needless to say I'm excited about taking a ride!!!
It seems a great time was had by all who were able to attend.
