That is quite harsh. I personally wouldn't shoot an aircraft down unless the pilot refused to respond to radio communications and/or visual cues from an intercepting aircraft, but that's just me

This doesnt just affect pilots, but also from reading that, anyone who may want to be in the area to pay their respects, Hell even making the mayor take a special bus to the event is a joke. I say the RAF re-enact the d-day landings aircover, but this time with the few typhoons that we have. See how effective their defenses are this time round

You have a very good point there Andrew. I wonder what my late father-in-law & his comrades would make of all this. Knowing him they might be asking just what they were fighting for as he often bitterly commented to me in the past. It might be better if all the heads of state & dignitaries stay away & let the ones who were there get on with it. The politicians weren't queuing up to go there back in 1944. Most of these veterans won't be around much longer. This is probably their last chance to relive their memories, should they wish to do so - & many of them would rather forget if they could. How long do you go on "celebrating" these things? Maybe they should make this the last one.

I hope that has been sorted. Whats next, charging the Veterans for the damage they caused during the D-Day landings My granddad was part of the first wave of attacks on that day and i know he will be turning in his grave if he knew of the way all this is being handled.

The fact is that we are under some form of attack, we in the UK have been for years and have always had pretty high security as a result.  This is just a natural progression of normal security.  Imagine the result if some maniac got in amongst that lot.

In addition what would you lot be saying if someone managed to take out HM the Queen, Bush and Blair in one fell swoop?  What would you say about the poor security set up that the French had?  How much anti-French sentiment would we see?

as far as the air restrictions, whatever thats their choice, its the fact that they are seriously restricting access to the guys who fought on those beaches. They deserve to be there more than any politician or royal today.

If it weren't for them the politicians wouldn't be there in the first place.
It will be sad if a aircraft had to fly into the area do to a emergancy situation with no other option, just to be blowen away!
