first of all it isnt boeings last stand.
Secondly, the 7E7 will be a huge hit, and anyone who has been following it closely will have noted that airbus bosses are scared, all they have been doing is coming out with childish bashing of the aircraft. They know that they have nothing to compete with it, and since it will replace both the older 767 and A330 fleets alot of people will be at least considering it. And with the recent multi billion $ order for it, Boeings future is looking rather secure:)
personally airbus are the ones who should be worried.
The A340-600 has been a huge let down and has displayed the exact same performance problems that killed off the MD11 and mcdonell douglas with it. And since there is still no proof the A380 can perform aswell as predicted so they better hope it does.
Now i am not an airbus fan but they are needed for business same goes for boeing. It would be really bad if there was only 1 major company.
I guarentee you the 7E7 will not only meet, but exceed the projections Boeing have given, the 777 has done it so many times and with the new engines and cockpit for the 7E7 it can only get better

Boeing bashing! Absolutely dispicable!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

I  do like some of the planes they make (320,346) just because they are cool, but half the reason Airbus is doing so well is that they are funded by the government. Boeing on the otherhand is privately funded. BOEING ALL THE WAY!

Well Said Craig.

The 7E7 is a good airplane, and all Airbus high-ups can say is that it's not as good as thier already-been-around-for-a-while A330.  They just bash it.  And it's well known that peopla often say bad things about the opponent when they are worried about the oppnent.
Boeing may be producing less than it was in its peak years, but it is not in its last stand.

BOEING ALWAYS!

Two points:

1.  Unless Boeing has an absolute and utter failure as an aircraft (not the 7E7, I mean in general), then Boeing will be on top for years and years to come.

2.  Unless you've got a reason to slam someone (e.g. you're scared), you don't do it.  This goes back to the age old addage "He who doth protest loudest".  If your product is as good as you say it is, then it should stand on the merits of itself, and not require any intervention by you, the creator.

With that said, Boeing all the way!

Interesting to note that aside from Craig, only people from the american side of the pond have replied. And it's also interesting that aside from Craig, the supporters of boeing are all american.

I for one want to see Airbus flourish. And I personally think the 7E7 looks horrible.

I think the 7E7 is the most beautiful aircraft yet...along with the 737. Yes Craig I suppose youre right but Im worried about the new double decker Airbus. There is a prob. with the 7E7 though Craig... the effecient engines need to be supported with pylons and the landing gear will have to change. This could offset the effency if Boeing comes up with a good way to make the changes.
Also the 7E7 has the coolest interior ever. The 7E7 could pose problems though. Boeing may still have problems selling it. Its a slim chance but it could happen because of Airbus, If it doesnt sell well it will be a LOT of wasted money. I think Boeing is the BESTR company out there.

When it all comes down to it Boeing is just another aircraft manufacturer. It might be a huge company but apart from the fact it employs a large number of people & helps the US economy I see no reason for blind loyalty to the company or its products. It's had its fair share of the market for far too long & it's about time it had to shake up its ideas. IMHO

Competition is healthy & never did any harm to any business providing it has a sound management. Time will tell if the 380 is a success but I'm sure there's room for both companies. It all depends on the state of civil aviation in general & whether people want to travel on these new airliners. The airline industry is a fickle business at the best of times & it does not seem particularly healthy at the moment.

I'll throw in my two cents. I believe both the 7E7 and the A380 are the wave of the future and will share near equal success. Why? 7E7 has high fuel economy (20% of any airline's expenses are fuel) and the A380 has a high passenger capacity. Two things the airliners really want.

However there are two other Western companies to concider. Bombardier and Embraer. The short trip / low capacity market is hot right now as it's a hassle to travel internationally. The Dash 8 is hugely popular for short trips judeging by the large number of the flying over my house. Embraer is also catching on as airlines seek options

Also, it's important to keep in mind the markets in question here.

I agree.  Only a few (in aviation terms) years ago, EMBRAER was making relatively small planes.  Now, the 170/190 series are nipping at the B-717/A318/319 heels.  What will the future hold?  EMBRAER seems to be playing good music with excellent conductors, players and composers.

The A380 will replace the 747

I'm for Boeing all the way! Though some Airbus aircraft look really nice (A340)  ;D. I hope the A380 doesn't replace the 747, that's my favorite one  ::) :'(
