What You Don't Want in Your Salad at 30,000 Feet

An airline passenger was given a nasty fright when a frog with a taste for adventure stowed away in her in-flight salad, New Zealand authorities said Tuesday.
The passenger discovered the airborne amphibian perched on a slice of cucumber while on a Qantas flight from Melbourne to Wellington in February.

"Naturally there was a bit of consternation by the passenger who called back the attendant," Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry quarantine general manager Fergus Small said.

The flight attendant removed the salad and the 4 cm (1.6 inch) whistling tree frog, which was killed by quarantine staff when the aircraft landed.

While frogs had been known to hitch rides in the cargo holds of aircraft, it was the first time the Quarantine Service was aware of one being found in a meal, Small said.

Qantas was not immediately available for comment but a spokesman told The New Zealand Herald newspaper the airline had since changed its lettuce supplier and introduced "additional procedures into the salad supply process."

Frogs are crunchy ;D ;D ;D And probably have a higher protein value than anything else the airline will serve ;D

Ozzy

Ps. Have they yet found out which terrorist organisation released the receipe for airline lunches? ;D

At least it proves the food was fresh. I don't get why they had to kill the frog. ::)

PS. I've never had a problem with airline food. It's usually more than adequate for the purpose. Unless it's a long-distance flight I don't see the need for a full meal anyway. ::)

airline food aint that bad really.

Have you ever tried Northwests meals?? god awful had both the beef and pasta and they are horrible, the smell from all airline food is what puts me off before it even gets to you.
Deltas food is ok the chicken on there is really nice but again the smell. Their breakfast is really nice the coffee is soooo strong and the smell there isnt so bad.
KLM is god awful their sandwiches were still frozen and the chicken tasted like rubber.
One thing all airlines seem to include is the horrible white cream and spinache(cant spell it)

PS:  The freshest airline food is likely the sushi and sashimi on these flights  ;).

Worst I've ever had would be breakfast on an Air 2K flight from Greece, and the best has to be BA, Paris to Glasgow via Birmingham: Smoked salmon  8)

Qantas airline food isn't that great, i flew BUSINESS class in January and it was not very good.  They ran out of hot breakfasts for us and they had to piece together a scungy meal outta bits and pieces that werent even attractive.

the frog would have certainly been a conversation start, but at least she didn't find half a frog in her salad, that would have been even more tradgic . . . :(

dunno why quarrantine killed the green friend (they are a prized animal over here, very good for the environment) they should stuck him on a flight home and let him go into the wild to live happily ever after.

Continental has good food as well. ;)

My only real question about the frog situation is this:

Did she still have to pay for the meal?  Many airlines have switched to a "pay per eat" type menu that you're given at boarding.

Remember when the sandwiches used to be free?  lol
