Heli Crash in Brooklyn

It's amazing that that anybody survived this without life threatning injury.

A news chopper for WNBC-TV crash landed in Brooklyn. The helicopter had been covering a shooting at the time. It started to circle out of control, clipped a building, and landed hard on a roof crushing it like a tin can. Amazingly the pilot and reporter walked away from th crash.

The crash was actually caught on tape by another news helicopter.

I'm no heli expert but it looks to me like a tail roter problem.

The reporter said that all three men were in hospital in a serious condition.  This makes it unlikely that they will be out buying beer tonight.  Can someone from New York get an update because I can find nothing on the story anywhere.

I just saw the video on Regis and Kelly. (New York morning show)

Lucky everyone survived.

cant really tell from that video but i dont think it was a tail rotor problem, it wouldnt do that with even a loss of the rotor. could have been a nasty gust of wind off the buildings during a turn.

From what I saw on Sky the chopper clipped a building and broke the tail rotor, then lost control.

Glad those guys got out alive, they are sure lucky (or unlucky depending on your outlook!)

I saw the footage last night, what I don't understand is how (at least) one person was up and walking about after the crash and all in the helicopter are in serious condition.

???

I just heard on the news that the pilot had reported a tail rotor failure just before the crash and that the 2 in the hospital have been upgraded to stable condition.

Good news! :)

I heard that the two pilots weren't badly injured but the reporter had to be hospitalized. They probably survived because of the relatively short fall.
