As a victim of one of these abominations myself I rather like this. ;)

It strikes me that anyone else would have lost their job or resigned in similar circumstances. ::)

[quote]Traffic police chief did 104mph

The police chief in charge of traffic in Greater Manchester has been caught speeding along a motorway at 104mph.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Thomas was fined

You would have thought, that being the traffic police chief, that he would know where all the speed cameras are in his area. :P

....In a statement he said: "On the day in question, the driving and road conditions were good, and I was part of a group of around 15 cars all doing around the same speed.....

Don't we all do it under those conditions...?
He was the unlucky one, maybe the other 15 got away with it... 8)...!
...FLASH....buggar... :'(...!

I suppose it all comes down to common sense in the end...
...the coppers tell me I'm "common", and haven't got any "sense".... ;)...!
...but I've got this "special" number plate which juggles the letters around while I am "hurrying" around...Tee-Hee... 8)...!
LOL...!

Frantic Fozzer... ;D...!

its a device used to catch speeding cars. usually placed on the side of the road. or on bridges for motorways. When a car is going faster than the limit it takes a picture of the car and license plate, and eventually you get a letter through telling you of your penalty

He wont have been caught by a camera ....... the only motorway in the UK to have permanent cameras is the M25 "Carpark". He'll have been caught by a good old fashioned traffic cop. I have abosulutely no problem being caught that way.  As for the cameras ....... tear them all down except in well known accident blackspots.

Rant over  ;D

The guidelines for all speed cameras dont apply to all Police forces and are voluntary even in the forces that do apply them.
As for a defence there isn't one ..... if your name is on the registration for the car .... or your name is given as being the driver unless YOU can prove that you wern't driving YOU are guilty.
I fell fowl of my name being given as the driver of a car... I went to the police and told them my side of the story as to my whereabouts. However I had no proof as all the paperwork relating to the delivery I had been on had been altered by my boss because HE had been driving at the time. I had to take the fine and points basically because taking it to court would have cost me a fortune and probably ended up with me getting a bigger fine and possibly loosing my license.

The law regarding speed cameras in the UK basically means that you are GUILTY untill proven INNOCENT which is against all reasonable principals of law and a breach of human rights in its worst form...
When I confronted asked the policeman about why the camera didnt take a picture of the driver also ... he stated that that WAS a breach of Human rights and therefore they wern't allowed to.
This was in Scotland several years ago and things may have changes slightly with the introduction of more sophisticated cameras and methods of measuring speed with them ... but the law hasn't changed.

Heres a site showing most of the Speed camera sites in the UK ...but they are adding to them all the time and dont forget the mobile ones  >:(

RANT OVER !!!!

There are ways of getting out of those things on technicalities. Like not signing your name on the piece of paper that comes through the letterbox and such.

And if your doing 170mph+ the camera doesn't know your there! ;D

If you are doing 170+, the camera surely can't even get a picture!

And I guess we are lucky we don't have those blasted things here...only unmarked cars and clever speed traps(policeman in a workman's getup on a bridge with a speed gun ::))
