Possible Website

Postby Katahu » Fri Apr 09, 2004 6:27 pm

In about 2 months from now, I am planning to start a website of my own. I have been doodling and dawing in my trusty little notbook on how the site should look.

I know, I am not a webmaster [at all], and this is my first time trying to make a website. That's where your help comes in.

I need some help as to what name I should give to the site. Of course, judging by the examples above, it will be all about cars and ground traffic [still being look at].

The new site will be based on www.freewebs.com. If you have any suggestions, please do tell. I am obviously going to be needing some advise sooner or later.

Yes, I am still using a public computer right now and I think I found the computer for me. I can by a good laptop here on base [with no tax at all] and it's pretty decent. But I still gotta let my budget build up. It's not a kick-@55 system, but it's good enough for me to continue my work.

Just to let you plan ahead so that we can work together in the coming months, here is my schedule.

In Texas time:

Mon-Fri: Technical Training 0500-1545 [military hrs]
Sat-Sun: Free Time 0930-2200
Curfew starts at 2200-0400

That way, you wouldn't find yourself trying to contact me right away and then finding out that I was still at school at the time.

I am thinking that the new site doesn't need a forum of its own because we can all meet here and there will be links leading to SimV and other well-known sites.

I am thinking of putting up mods in the site as well. For example: A modified Mercedes-Benz with a spoiler, or new rim variations for both the Mercedes and Porsche.

I have so much ideas. However, this process would only start if I can get my hands on my own computer.

Your idea of a website sounds great! Just one question though...what's it going to be about?

It's going to be a site where all my car-modeling work can be displayed in an obvious way.

The addon cars will be for FS [if you looked at my reputation].

Basically, I want to make a home for my nice projects and a nice place for the downloads.

You're experiencing the voting issue as well? I thought that the reason I couldn't see my vote was that I am using a public computer. But now it seems someone else has this issue.

Anyways, here's another idea that I talked about long ago.

Since the AFCAD files can be used to regulate and simulate car traffic [if you make the taxiways in a special way], I am also planning to make an experimental road system to see how it goes and how it should be laid out. The AI car traffic should consist of low-poly models to help reduce stress on the system. However, I have to finish my current project first. Can any of you start on this little exeriment for me and see how it goes?

Once the proper AFCAD files [from serious projects] are done, they can be then posted on the new website for everyone to download and travel in. AI models will also be posted.

The trickiest part about making the road system is that you have to make the roads match the scenery. Also, you will need to have drivable bridges as well so that you can drive over rivers and such. To me, making the drivable bridges is possible.

The roads would also have to be wide enough for multiple lanes in case you want to drag-race with someone online in the middle of a city. Which is fun especially at night.

That sounds awesome! I tried driving across the country in the sim once. I managed to go all around and get back to my hometown but since there weren't any cars, I just used a small propeller plane...so I guess I taxied across the country. Crazy, I know lol.  ::) I think your ground traffic plan would of made my trip easier though ;D

freewebs is a good site to start out on coupled with a .tk registration for free , no ad website

one important thing to mention

go for the advanced user when signing up for the site because of one slight pain in the ass. with the site builder you can only have i think 6 pages. to have more you have to design your own site and upload it to their servers which is easy when u know how.. if you need any help on this or want help designing the site gimme an email daz_walsh@hotmail.com

hope this helps and good luck with the cars!

Pete is fixing the problem with voting chaps. Just after the lightning strike at his home he's had a few problems. Give it a couple of days and it should be right as nine pence ;)

personally i would go with FS Cars Revolution.

Cars 4 FS is kind of corney sounding

FS Ground Traffic you would get a lot of missed place hits for people wanting AI ground airport traffic

FS Evolution kind of sounds misleading

just mho's

Look forward to your future add on. Would it be more suitable for FS2004 rather than the 02 version? Just thought that the graphics on the 02 version are a little bit out for such detail.
All the best.
