That's a shame :-/ ... why is it closed?

It seemed like a prime place for an arport- right in the heart of downtown Chicago

The same thing is about to happen to an airport close to me (22B-Mountain Meadow Airstrip/Johnnycake Airport) ... The property is split into two halfs and the guy who owns the runway side wants to raise the rent for the people that keep their planes their from like $6,000 to $20,000...greedy, if you ask me

urmm, in the end i am not affected by its closure, While i dont agree with the way Mayor Daley went about closing it, and the excuse he gave. I really am not that bothered. Never would have used it, never even visited. Locals i am sure are a little more cheesed off:)

I wouldn't think that you europeans would care about this, it isnt an aviation icon to you guys like it is to us Americans. It is, was, one of our most treasured U.S. airports. I think the reverse would hold true if one of your favorite U.K. airports were closed; you guys would be sadened by it while many of us wouldn't give it a passing thought.

Meigs field was an Icon of Chicago, some odd flight simulator, I don't remember which one (never bought it), it was right next to downtown and all the biz jets loved it because it was so close, and photographers loved it because it had such a nice backdrop for pictures. It was the kind of airport we all wanted to live near to and fly out of.

that was one airport I'd fly through O'hare's airpspace just to go land at....and I hate flying through class B as of now, too bad I ended up getting my license a little too late.... ...I have been to the airport and in the tower on a drive through chicago....it was a nice airport....

i live right next to it, literally right next to it, made things alot easier to get to and from work in the burbs.   grrrrrrrrr

The only reason Miegs was closed . Was because the Mayors wife wanted a place to have her park at. And he found a way to weasel it into this spot. Love how the pilots were FORCED OUT of their favorite airport. The runways were even being torn up while the small planes were still there ! They were made so no more incoming flights could be made...

There was no good reason to shut it down. Imo, he doesn't deserve to stay mayor. He should also be labled as an enemy of Aviation, and banned from flying for life.

Closing the airport was not a good idea. There's less jobs, and other airports around the area are probably much more busier. Meigs also helped controll the airspace around Chicago.

What was the idiot thinking?
