Nice idea...

Yay.

That should only appeal to shallow thinking people, the statistics haven't changed.  Although that article does say something useful: AMDs are better!  I think I'll go with those instead of Pentiums on my upcoming (if it ever does) build.

One of the many things I like about my AMD processor is its ability to heat my house during the cold winter months.
It saves me loads of money in heating bills as well as powering my computer.

LOL.... ;)...!

Paul.

I second that.

But this is a rather unwelcomed effect during the hot summer months... :P

My current PIII has the same problem. Although it is nice in the winter, it makes my bedroom about 15 degees warmer than the rest of the house if you leave the door closed.

A teacher at my old college showed us a video of a P4 and an AMD Athlon running side by side. They were showing some kind of graphics intensive programs on the monitors, and then pulled the CPU fans off.  The P4 promptly cut the number of frames down to next to nothing so that it wouldn't get too hot and saved itself.  The AMD however..... well, you could have fried a steak on the dead melted pile of silicon.

Sound like a rather expensive experiment...

Nope, it was conducted by Intel, the've got plenty of money last time I checked.

Hi Silent.... ;D...!
I just open all my windows and doors, pop down to my local store, buy a really big reciprocating fan, and enjoy the joys of flying in a real wind.... ;D...!
...keeps me and my AMD really cool as well...!
LOL...LOL...LOL...!

Paul...looking forward to summer and lots of cool, realistic?,  winds,,, 8)...!
LOL...!

Okay,I usually got my window open,too,but I don't have a fan here.
I'm curious how hot this summer will be and if my XP 2100+ will survive it...  :P

"Consumer-unfriendly clunkers like the Pentium 4 processor with HT Technology Extreme Edition 3.40 GHz will be traded in for the much sleeker 300, 500 or 700 series." ::)

If "HT Technology Extreme Edition 3.4 GHz" confuses you:
1. You are technologically challenged ;)
2. If you are technologically challenged, then why do you care about the processor's name and specs in the 1st place ???

I think they should just leave the names the way they are- it gets confusing when you start making fancy names for stuff... My mom's car's color is "desert swept sand gold"
WHAT'S WRONG WITH JUST PLAIN GOLD? >:( ??? ;D

I thought I read somewhere about in the future the new Pentiums will run at around 300Mhz :o

I have a feeling they may be trying to distance themselves from the more GHz the better argument ;) But that naming system is complete bonkers! I'd rather see see them taking on the AMD naming system - It would end up something like this:

Intel Pentium 5 6700 (@ 300mhz) with HT technology

That way they'd keep their beloved big numbers as well as the HT bit - Id rather they ditched the HT bit so the dell adverts on TV wouldn't be so annoying!

I don't like the Dell advert either.

we will be hearing "64-bit processing" instead

Not for a year yet apparrently! By the time things can go 64-bit I suspect the FX-51 will have some competition! (although Intel better get there act together (P4 EE!) :o)

I don't like the Dell advert either.  When he says "with HT technology" i always say "like you need it", .......... It is like selling a ferrari then handicapping it with front wheel drive only.  Great for passing though town, but for a car that is not meant for just passing through town it is total....

I find the Hyper Threading is excellent actually! Games run well enough and the rest of the time I can do loads of things at the same time with not much loss in performance! I reckon for an all round computer the Intels are the best bet.

I read yesterday from a very very reliable source

Where can I find this reliable source? I know that AMD took the gamble with 64bit and it may pay them dividends but if their not going to offer support for DDR2 then thats hardly being on the forfront of technology!

Anyway whatever happens its going to be a real fight the next few years!
