That was the first thing I went to ;D

"Tax-deductible donation:  $600.00.  For an additional $400.00, you will have the exclusive opportunity to pilot this famous fighter, a true once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

lets see, if I cancel my car insurance for a few months.....I might be able to save up enough.....

There was a non profit group who flew their B-24 & B-17 into the area to put on display. For a small fee, you could get close, and walk through them. It was a blast, but i'm sure I annoyed the mechanic who was working on the B-17 cockpit by begging to sit at the controlls ;D

I almost went for the ride, I just didn't have the money on me at the time ;D

If you really want to do something - make the time, even if it's on a limited basis. Opportunity rarely knocks more than once. Either grab it with both hands & go for it or miss out & regret it for ever. In my experience this applies to everything in life. ;)

Kermit Week's Fantasy of Flight in Polk COunty, FL...  Museum and restoration facility.

Kissimmee Warbird Museum in Kissimmee, FL - become a member, and you can get tapped for a free flight in one of the two B-25s based there.  It's more of a working restoration facility than a "museum", but quite a number of projects.

At Kissimmee, you also have Warbird Adventures - rides on T-6/SNJ, plus also one of the top P-51 Restoration facilities (and yes, you can get a ride on a TP-51)

The museum in Fargo, North Dakota has only about 10 airplanes, but they are all flyable, and all superior examples.

Unfortunately, I live in Chicago and am unlikely to ever make it back that way again.

yes go to the american air power heritage flight museum.  Run by the CAF, it houses all of the aircraft in the CAF fleet.  when i went with my uncle who is the pilot of the B-29, and B-24, they had both planes there, and I got to wash them both! haha, i got to work my ass off in 105deg heat, getting oil stains, and bumping my head alot!(now that i think about it, its really not supposed to be fun)

I would love to buy an old B-29 and restore it to original flight condition...make it the second flying one in the world...:-)

You can get an F-86 out of the boneyards for less than $60K. It would be a lot faster than a B-29, cheaper too.............
