Looking at the flag...

I'm sitting here looking at my new signature pic and wondering this:  Does anyone in any other country feel as much pride as I do when you look at your flag?  I look at flags from other countries, and they are nice, but I look at ours and I get this feeling like it is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.  It's the kind of feeling I get when I see my kids playing.  Whenever I see a flag flying, I usually will just sit and watch for at least a few seconds.

I don't mean to sound gushy or anything.  I'm not an uber-patriot or something like that and I know that like any entity, our governemnt makes mistakes.  But that sense of pride definitely is there and I was wondering if other people in other countries felt the same way about theirs...  :)

This is just my point of view, but I can really get disgruntled somtimes seeing the American flag everywhere.
It just gets plastered everywhere, and no matter where you turn its just 'there', as if to remind us (or you )

Not trying to get you to get rid of your new sig, or saying I hate Americans.

Anyways, the 'jack on its own, its just a flag. Put it into context though, say back when Linford Cristie won the 100m sprint in the Olympics, and doing the lap of honour with the 'jack wraped around him. THATS what i call pride

I didn't ask about how other countries felt about our flag.  I asked how you felt about yours.  Don't ANYONE even think of turning this thread into some kind of political debate.  >:(

I have always felt a sense of security and pride whenever I see the American flag flying...:-) First thing I can remember is staying at my grandparents home and helping my grandfather put the flag out on the city point right across the street from where they lived...:-) All of my grandparents excluding my mums mum were WWII veterans who took extrat pride in the flag and what it meant.

Now since my grandfather mentioned above has long gone away, and everytime I see a flag flying I remember those long ago lost days of hanging the flag and reliving history with my grandfather....

(Said all teary eyed..) Well shucks, now I'm almost crying...:-( Thanks for bringing back those wonderful memories though :-)

YO YO YO, Chill, Chill guys. Come on we are all friends here. Def no need to go into a political debate here, i think most people feel a sense of pride when they see their flag, myself included.

Unfortunately Kevin, flags are political. Flying our own cross of St George or even the Union Flag of the UK is not encouraged in our country. This is now seen as politically incorrect as it could possibly offend ethnic minorities. There is some truth in that as the national flag of England is now associated with neo-nazi groups & football hooligans.

It's a lot different now to when I was at school. We were never into all that flag waving but we were taught to be proud of our King & country & its achievements. I'm as patriotic as anyone but no longer supposed to feel this way in case it upsets someone. Maybe this explains Maccer's cynicism.

Well for me, first thing which comes to mind when I see your new flag sig Kev, is that its a tad over the guidelines for a signature  ::) and for a mod, I would have thought that it may be more prudent to lead by example, rather than be a bender of rules ? ...........not that I'm pickin' , but there are many on here who seem to be stretching things and giving the dial-up access members and guests, a scenic route to loading a page ...........

The flag is nice and could be reduced in file size, but the test quote might have been pared down a bit also....

I must admit though, I feel I may have chosen one by " Tony Montana "......from one of my all-time fav movies, or one from " Virgil Hilts " in " The Great Escape ".

Here is your flag, now reduced from 89,760 down to 19,538 , ........can you see a real difference ?  ???  ;D  ;D

Hungarians are fanatical about their flags. Every school building, government office, hospital (about the only place they tend not to appear are public lavatories ).
It reminds me a lot of being a kid in the US, flags everywhere. Nice, but a little quaint for we cynical Brits.
Personally I always just give a little smile when I see a Jack, its just a nice little bit of home for me.

I actually keep it there just to let people know where I live. I guess that would be mostly newbies since many of you maniacs know where I'm from!  ;D
