RAF museum cosford

Postby Craig. » Sat Feb 07, 2004 4:20 pm

Well as some here know i am moving to birmingham in a matter of perhaps weeks. I have just found out that the RAF has a museum there that being Cosford.(sorry if someone pointed this out to me before bad memory) Has anyone been to said museum? If so, whats it like???
They have a few jobs going for low level pesants like myself so it could be a perfect job to earn some spare cash before i leave for college.
Thanks for any info

It's the RAF's second museum after Hendon - it's a bit less "main stream" - you'll find some interesting aircraft there, prototypes for example, as well as some of the larger aircraft in the collection, and the RAF Museum's restoration centre. Worth a try if you want to get a job, and the museum's worth a visit too (it's free).

Craig. Cosford is one of the places I keep meaning to visit but never get round to it. Maybe I'll make it this year. Thanks for reminding me. ;)
They have some very rare aircraft on display. I've been looking round for a list. Finally found this site. http://www.aeroflight.co.uk/mus/uk/cosfd/cosford.htm

Hendon & Cosford go together & admission is now free to both. The complete collection is something like 180 complete aircraft plus many other aviation-related exhibits.
The Science Museum in London has its Air Transport Collection and Storage Facility at RAF Wroughton near Swindon, not far from M4 Junction 15. http://www.aeroflight.co.uk/mus/uk/u-z/wroughton.htm

All these are worth visiting if you get the chance. Good luck with the job. ;)

You can check the details from my links or a quick search on Google. Places like Wroughton aren't open every day so it's best to make sure. It also has very few facilities so it might not suit you. If you're anything like me it will take a whole day for each museum. Even then you probably won't see everything.

Oh dear, Brimingham ::)
I've been to Cosford on more than one occasion. I had posted a bunch of photos when the photo section first started, but they have since been wiped.
The aircraft they have there are incredable, they've even got one of the only two surviving TSR2's left in existance (they survived the scrap heap to do tests on Concorde's RR/Snegma engines)
To be honest if they have these and a Lightning, and a collection of all 3 V-bombers, an ME-262, Komet, Spitfire, a WWII bomber (Which is apperently Haunted, can't remember what it was though) and a V1 and V2... I'm supprised they didnt get concorde :-/
