Charging for E-mail!!

Postby xwing » Tue Feb 03, 2004 2:12 pm

Did anyone else hear anything about this?
They (CNN) just did a 30 sec. spot on it.
Sounds like there are meetings (Bill Gates/ISPs) to discuss the possibilities of charging for E-mails--Maybe one cent to start.  I wondered about this years ago and am surprised those greedy bastar** did not consider this earlier >:(

yes, but what you are paying for are optional services like spam filters, bigger file limmits and virus checkers.

I always assumed this is covered by my ISP contract. If they wish to make more profit they could simply increase the monthly fee. A fixed charge is convenient & I have no interest in paying extra per e-mail as with telephone calls. With the amount of spam & viruses I get every single day they should be paying me. ::)

I've hidden my email address from you lot (because i think it may be the reason i get so much spam) but I've recently signed up for a pop account. Completely free, spam filters and other options are available for a fee, but i dont bother.

Now that the 2004 American elections are coming up, watch out for the Democrats. They have the tendency to jack up the taxes and chances are they might join the bandwagon try to charge us a whole lot extra for each e-mail that we recieve.

You know, this is the worst moment that those people have chosen to propose such an idea. In this era, we have spam running around like sprinters in the Olympics. And if we're charged for every e-mail, just imagine the costs.

Even 1 cent per e-mail can add up like 773H.

Even an old cynic like me can't see how this could be turned into a political isssue. ::)

I haven't read the article but I assume the sender would be the one charged - just like paying for snail mail.

Sorry if it sounded like that. I just wanted to briefly point out something and that's it. ::)

Well as long as it lowers spam and they don't start charging 5 cents per message sent on a messenger I am OK.
