Hello to all my fellow flight simmers.

Well, the bad boys are at it again and have unleashed a new virus just detected the 26th of Jan. It is called the Novarg virus, actually a worm. It comes as an attachement in your email. The attachement is a zip titled .doc. The actual worm has several different extensions, but the most common are a .src or .cmd.

Symantec already has an excellent removal tool and I suggest everyone get and run it. My Anti Virus program detected, removed and supposedly healed the virus, but I ran the Symantec tool and it still found the bugger. It cleaned it and REALLY did fix it.

As 100% of my E-mails are "spam" and I am getting around 40 of them every day, (even though they are supposed to be illegal here), I am trying to find a way of blocking ALL of my incoming mail sent to my server, (Freeserve)... ::)...!
..otherwise I will have zillions of them building up, and it takes too long to delete them all every day... >:(...!
I don't know if this is possible...?

By the way....
Are Virus's only obtained via E-Mail, or is it possible to get them by surfing bona fide Web Sites...(like Simviation, etc)....?
(I still haven't been able to get my Norton Anti-Virus program up and working yet, which worries me a bit)..... ...!

Spam is one of the worst things of the web, and a lot of people are subject to it, including me. I am currently getting 10-20 emails supposedly from Microsoft about "Newest Network Update" or "Latest Bug Alert". They all have viruses in them and luckily my antivirus software just chucks them out. I have tried for weeks to get rid of it, but without success  ::) :-/

You can get viruses from loads of places, but by far the most common are email viruses. There was a bug in Windows XP that when it was found out, Microsoft were afraid to tell anyone about it. It meant that by clicking a link in an email, on the web or a link sent over an IRC can delete any file/folder on your computer! A few people had C:\Windows deleted before a fixed file was given out This is not exactly a virus, but it just goes to show how dangerous the web can be. It really is scary :-/

To me, the best way to block a MAJORITY of e-mail spam is by applying CUSTOM filters to your e-mail.

If you have MSN8 do this:

1. Go to the Help & Settings menu at the top of your browser and click on Settings. Then Click on where it says "Set your e-mail preferences". And click on where is now says "Junk Mail". Finally, click on where it says "Custom Filters".

2. Click on the "New Filter" button.

3. Select the option that says "have ______ in the subject". Then type the word that you want the filter to look for.

4. Next, select the option at the bottom that says "Delete these messages".

5. Click "OK"

6. Select the filter that you have just created by checking the boxes and click on "Apply filter(s) now"

7. A pop up window will tell you that it will sort through the e-mails that you already have and it will ask you "do you want to continue". Just continue.

There, you are done.

What the filter will do is scan through the e-mails [all of them] and it will look into the subject lines to see if it has the word that you programed the filter to look for.

If the filter finds the word, it will delete it. It will also do the same thing to all incoming e-mails as well.

Custom filters can give you other options as well.

If you have MSN6, then I can't help you because I only use MSN8.
