Basically, Disney wanted a bit too much of the pie for what was in essence, the middleman work. As long as Pixar was a newcomer, that worked, but ...
Disney recently closed down its animation shop in Orlando, leaving it only with the California based group. With more and more animation going to computers, the " traditional" animation is going by the wayside.
