Making friends

Postby terbert » Wed Jan 28, 2004 7:52 pm

Hi all,

Do you know, there is no better place than this forum to make friends. Apart from the banter that goes on between us regulars here, I have recently palled up with a couple of new guys who asked for help on Multiplayer. After telling them to get a headset with mike we are now in contact most nights and having fun flying together, although we live 4000 miles apart :)
I hope that I am contributing to their education of FS and although we will problably never meet, it feels like we have been friends forever.

Come on, guys, get headsets with a mike, download Roger Wilco or Teamspeak and lets have a big fly in

How true!
I too really have no friends besides the guys at work.
After work they like to head to the bar and since I'm now sober don't go along. So I come home and work around here and then come to hang out at SimV.
Although I have been here less than a year I have met some really good people and i consider everyone here a friend.
I found this place to be a missing "link" in my life. Most of the people I know might have 20 some friends, but me I have 100's from all around the world, all ages, and gender (although mostly male:) )
Not to mention the humor, but I have enjoyed many a good conversations! I have also increased my knowledge on every subject possible. Learn about different cultures, way people live outside of TN, etc.
And if someone pisses you off there is no face to face arguing, you just push a button and go elsewhere :)
All in all I find this place a very life enriching experiance, and really don't know of a better way to spend what little free time I might have!!!
So let's raise a toast to Friends across the world!!!!!!!!!!!!

To right Tony ;)
How weird is it that we only lived a couple of miles apart, and now I'm at the other end of Europe and through SimV we know one another! Amazing :o :o :o
And of course everyone saw the pics of Will (Smoke2much) and myself in Covent Garden getting err refreshed ;D ;D ;D
So where are we flying into for the big drink? ;D

BTW, I don't really have room to talk.  I spent a very inordinate amount of time browsing these forums and playing FS.  I think my wife would just like to throw the computer out the window some times... ::) :)

Virtual friends are nice to have, especially if you're lonely or live alone. During the last 5 years I've met many interesting people, some becoming valued friends. However, I'm never likely to meet them.

There's nothing like real life friends who are fun to go out with & can be of real practical help in times of trouble. This is when you find out who your real friends are & the favour can be returned if they get into trouble themselves. Unfortunately, in becoming obsessed with this hobby & this forum I've neglected many of my real life friends who've stuck by me through thick & thin for many years. One even helped me through a nervous breakdown & I owe him for saving my job & my sanity. I'm now making an effort to repair the damage & hope it's not too late. Some might have died for all I know which would be very sad. Please don't make the same mistake that I did. ::)

Hi Doug...!
Please don't do a 100% job and become completely sane. That sort of thing is not allowed in Simviation*... ;)...!

No worries on that score Foz old chap. 8) I should have said - saved me from losing it completely. I shall never be "normal" & this is as good as it gets. ::) ;D

PS. Despite any rumours to the contrary, my ol' mate Fozzer is one of my valued virtual friends. ;)

Hi all,

Thanks for replies, good to know we are all on the same wavelength :)

Doug, if you don't mind me calling you that, I have been there mate. Do not wish to go there again. After staring into blank space like a zombie, it was the planes that really put me back on the way up. ;D

Mark, yes life is funny on how it dishes things up. Who knows, we may have crossed paths when you were here. Yet I just feel I know most of you blokes (and ladies) personally ;D

We have had a bad time here for the last 7 months. I have spent most of my time recently in this section of the forum, rather than the FS part, and I have to say, you lot are so quick with the wit, I just sit here in stitches most nights. ;D ;D For god sake, don't stop ;D ;D

As for the drinking airport, mate, I had a rethink on this one.  :) Can you imagine all this lot on voice ;D ;D Wouldn't get a word in edgeways ;D

One thing I really like about these forums is that everyone on it seems to be decent and mature.  My wife was on a soap opera chat line last night and the other people on it were going on and on about nothing in particular.  One person kept breaking in with obscenities.  I would like to thank you all for being decent people and it is a pleasure to get online here!

Jim we can be rude to you if you want, but as your motto seems to be "Pass the ammo" perhaps cowardice is the better part of discretion ;) ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for replies, good to know we are all on the same wavelength :)

Most people I've come across in the aviation world, whether this involves real aircraft, modelling or the sims, are on the same wavelength. We all come from completely different backgrounds. A passion for aircraft & flying is the one thing we have in common. I also find that even the old hands are friendly & patient & will do all they can to encourage newcomers of all ages to their world. ;)

Doug, if you don't mind me calling you that, I have been there mate.

I don't mind, after all that's my name. ;) I also answer to Grumpy, Hagar or whatever you like. I've been called all sorts in the past. :D

Do not wish to go there again. After staring into blank space like a zombie, it was the planes that really put me back on the way up. ;D

All this happened a long time ago & fortunately I pulled through with a good friend's help. I don't like to think of what might have happened if he hadn't been there. I'm pretty certain I wouldn't be sitting here now. Depression is a terrible thing I wouldn't wish on anyone. I can be serious when I wish but I come here to let my hair down as I'm sure others do. You might have noticed that I generally don't take things too seriously. If we helped you just by behaving in our usual daft way I'm delighted. ;) Good luck old chap. ;D
