Well I had a particularly unpleasant experience this afternoon, and I have some questions relating to it.
I was driving to a lesson when a senile citizen decided she could walk out into the middle of a main road without looking, and I hit her (fortunately I was going v.slowly due to the weather, and a moron in a Lada who nearly took the nose of my car ).
The stupid old dear (who had less common sense than a cheese sandwich if she walked into a main road without looking, I'm not kidding!, and expect cars to be able to stop within a millimeter in snow and ice) was miraculously unhurt (but I bet she'll have a load of bruises in the morning).
I leapt from my car to help the silly moo, and promptly got loads of abuse from other boneheads waiting to cross the road the minute they realise I was foreign (my accent ), and then even more abuse from other road users stuck behind me.
So are the on-foot brigade where you live this dumb? And are other drivers denser than lead where you live?

Ps. I cancelled the lesson, had several large whiskeys followed by lots of beer and the shaking has now stopped.

seriously though, glad it wasnt anymore serious than it was. Its exactly like that here in bristol, i have not had to practise the emergency stop yet as at least once a lesson i have to use it for real, again its mainly old people and young kids who dont look but its also other drivers that are a problem.

Sorry to hear that Ozzy. At least it seems the old dear was not badly hurt. Just make sure you have witnesses as you might be sued for damages. This is a common practice here in the UK, imported from across the Pond with all their other bad ideas. Why we do this instead of importing their good ideas has always puzzled me.

I am faced with the same problem every time I venture outside my own drive (& sometimes on my own drive). It seems the general public has little respect for motor traffic these days. This applies to everyone from schoolchildren to old grannies. Some even wait until I'm almost on top of them before they walk out in front of me. Whatever happened to the offence of jaywalking?

Fortunately one of the witnesses spoke English, I was to rattled to speak Hungarian! I can just remember her fur hat bouncing up the bonnet. The silly mare didn't even look the right way when I clobbered her with nearly a tonne of metal!
I'm just v.glad she is okay, as the suing culture has just turned up here, but I have a good independent witness on my side.
Some of 'the mob' were getting quite nasty, and at one point I did ask someone if he was so perfect whether he wanted to try his luck. Unfortunately I have a v.short fuse when dealing with the mentally subnormal, coupled to a pair of v.large fists powered by v.large arms. The minute you point out the facts to them they tend to run away ::)
I just will take the bus for the next few days until my nerve has made a full recovery. Honestly, people don't have an ounce of commonsense around here, and an even more limited grasp of physics ::)

I think its just a little mixture of shock and sheer amazement that a country that has produced so many great academics and Nobel prize winners can produce people so stupid they don't know the green-cross code. I think I'm entering the over-protective stage of potential-fatherhood whereby I don't want to end up in prison because somebody else is so dumb that the left/right checks before hurling their body into a road don't even occur to them (and here I'd be the one in prison, they don't have jaywalking )

Actually Mark being in insurance, I have taken a few claims from people who have had similar experiences. Just last month I had a call from a woman who said an old lady had just stepped off the curb right out in front of her. The elderly lady bounced off the hood. She was OK but as you can see..............every counrty is blessed with these type of cheese sandwiches!

I just ordered you up another round............now take your medicine!

The problem in the UK is that the poor old motorist is now Public Enemy #1, followed closely by cigarette smokers. This is twice as bad for me as I come under both categories. ::)

This stupid government has successfully turned public opinion against car drivers so pedestrians (& cyclists) now feel they have every right to use the road as well as the pavement however they wish. If I were unlucky enough to hit one of these idiots, I would be the one to suffer whatever the circumstances. Nobody seems to appreciate that I & other drivers pay a considerable amount for the dubious privilege of using the road when nobody else does.

Looks like its time for those T-72s for thee and me then Hagar, complete with Bodecia hub-caps. I'd like to see anyone get up after being run-over by one of them buggers

I rather like that idea. I must visit my local car accessories shop to see what's available for my particular model. My finances don't run to a T-72.

And frankly I've drunk enough to float the USS Enterprise in during the course of this afternoon/evening And I'm now v.calm, but unable to read the strange squiggly symbols on the screen, I think they're called words
