Evelyn Bryan Johnson?
If you are a pilot or aviation enthusist at all you probably do.
Or at least 9 out of 10 pilots I have spoke with know this fascinating lady, a real American icon.
Born Nov 4 1909 in Corbin KY. She has earned in her liftime numerous awards for her acheviments in aviation.
1945-earned her PPL
1946-earned her commercial rating
1947- earned her instructor rating
1952- appointed pilot examiner cy the CAA
1955-flew a Tri-Pacer to South America
1957- Helicopter rating
1958-helicopter instructor
1991- May 7, logged 50,000 hours and is still flying today!
she has passed more students for the FAA than any other examiner.
She hold a world record for the most logged flight hours
The amount of pilots flying today that have been trained by or taken thier checkride with her is unbelivable.
This list could go on and on about her achivements and contributions to the world of aviation but the MODS might get mad.
The reason I bring up her name is because I'm lucky to live in the same area as she. I had met her a few weeks back and the stories and knowledge she has is mind boggleing to say the least.
I just found out yesterday that CBS news will be recording a check ride with her on Monday(I feel sorry for the student, as if your not under enough stress already) as a matter of fact I switched my flight time with him so he could practice, best of luck to you if your reading this!
This week Jay Leno also called her wanting to do a interview with her on his late night show.
I will be posting scheduled airing times as soon as I find out, so those of you who don't know about this fascinating lady can learn more.
All in all she is a major contributor to the world of aviation and she should be reconized. I wish they would make a movie about her and her life. She herself has proved that women can do and be better than men at whatever their hearts desire!
I hope that more people reading this will take the time to find out and learn more about her.
I myself, look forward to taking my checkride with a American Legend!!!!
Next time I talk with her I'll ask her how many hours she currently has logged, sorry I don't have that info now but if she had 50,000 in 1991 and still flies on a regular basis you can do the math and come up with a approximate amount, UNREAL isn't it?
