Well, here in God's own Country , it's Dec 17th and I really thought that my friends at the History Channel would have put together a virtual 'feast' of aviation related historical Docos etc.

So far all I have seen is a 1 (one) minute take on the Wright Flyer.

All that we have on right now news wise is the New Prime Ministers Cuts to Defence and every where he can make a cut.

I was right about the 'Flatop' Doco. it's one of those "History's Greatest Blunders" capers, so that means it's only 23 mins instead of 46 mins (that's what you get on cable when they have removed the adds from a half hour or hour show).  :o

The other half hour is taken up by a second 23 minute caper called "Conquests - Air Combat", which may be interesting enough, provided one of the two 23 minute docos contains something that I either - didin't know or haven't seen.  ;D This, of course, is rare. Not because I know alot, but because they tend not to be able to come up with much of a variety these days.  ;D

The "Flatop' (that's how they spell it! - Not sure if I would) caper is about to start so I'll pop off and have a peek.  ;D

During a demonstration flight, a U.S. Army flyer flown by Orville Wright nose-dived into the ground from a height of approximately 75 feet, killing Lt. Thomas E. Selfridge who was a passenger. This was the first recorded airplane fatality in history. One of two propellers separated in flight, tearing loose the wires bracing the rudder and causing the loss of control of the aircraft. Orville Wright suffered broken ribs, pelvis and a leg. Selfridge suffered a crushed skull and died a short time later. 1 killed

I started off my day of the 100th anniversary by flying IL-2 Forgotten Battles online.

I was flying my trusted old P.11. It's a great plane to use if you wanna stay alive for as long as possible. It has a good load fire-power with extreme manuveurability.

With this plane, I dodged more bullets and enemy fighters than any other player in existance.

However, my fun ended when I had to crash-land the P.11 after running out of fuel.

My celebration was cut short .
Around 7:00am this morning I checked the Synopsis and forecasts. I headed to the airport at 8:00am looking to fly the Piper Tri Pacer that I fly regularly. When I first saw it from about 200ft something seemed wrong. The planes nose was tilted down a little. Upon further investigation I found that the front oleo strut was leaking .

Sounds to me like someone wheelbarrowed her on.

Any hydraulic leak visible?

Down the oleo is where I would look first if nothing on the ground.

Don't know whether the Tri-Pacer is known for weak nose wheel oleo's or not, seen lots of them but never flew in one.

They look as if they could be a handful taxing in a crosswind?

Hope she will be back in the air for you soon!!!!
