Hi, G.A. and Commercial pilots... ...!

For the first time in since becoming a member, many moons ago, I popped over to the CFS 3 Forum yesterday just out of curiosity... ...!
Now the CFS games are all to do with shooting, bombing, and blasting the c**p out of anything that moves, including your mates, so after reading this thread* involving a fair bit of "nastiness", I quickly came to the conclusion that it seems to envoke quite a lot of aggression amongst the various players....
So for me, it's back to good-old FS 2002/2004 for some quiet, stress-free flying.... ...!

I can't agree there Fozzer old bean. You have the typical FS person's attitude to CFS. I've seen much worse than that thread from your link in the FS forums with people almost coming to blows on the pros & cons of the various civil sims & opinions on the incompetence of M$ in general. Lots of foul language too I might add.

I've been addicted to CFS since CFS1 was first released & always preferred it to FS. During this time I've met some of the most charming & helpful people you could wish to meet, from really nice youngsters to ex-WWII veterans & everything in between. Strangely enough & difficult as it might be for you to understand - far from encouraging violence & hatred this silly game actually promotes friendship between people of all nationalities & ages. It also gives them a healthy interest in history.

Where else could you imagine some old English twit like me going online & having a hectic dogfight with a young German like Silent Exploder (probably getting shot down in the first few seconds) & joking about it afterwards? Nobody gets hurt you see & everyone knows it's only a game. That's the beauty of it.

CFS rocks.

Some people especially teens it seems go out and try to do stupid things they've seen in movies or TV.  I guess computer games could get people fired up too.  I let my four year old play "Doom" and now he talks about shooting and stuff.  I also enjoy getting away from the combat flight sims and just poke holes in the sky in civilian type aircraft.

The reverse may be true also in that some good combat may be a way to let out your aggression...?

I got my attitude in the jungles of Southeast Asia. After seeing how truly $hity life can get and seeing the immense suffering of the indigenous peoples of the region, in particularly the Montagnard Tribesmen. I learned at a very young age what really matters in life. I don't get aggressive with video games at all. Those that posted the "nastiness" in that forum should go to Vietnam and into the bush. Then they would learn what it's like to be dirt poor and have to struggle day in and day out to feed themselves and their families.

Once you've met your constant companion death in a war zone, made him your friend, learned to live with him and learn to ignore him...then you will learn what really matters in life. Then you don't get upset at trivial things.

Nothing I say will ever change anyone's opinions. I'm fully aware of that & wouldn't attempt to do so. Fortunately, everyone here has a choice. If you don't fancy a combat sim I respect your right not to use one. To those who might not understand it, & I know there are many, all I ask in return is that you don't criticise those that do. It would be a very boring world if we were all interested in the same things.

My hats off to you ROMULUS111VADT and to all the REST of you who have served in Peace and War.
Now back to the Question....I don't think fighting games OR violence on movie screens or TV does affect you, UNLESS you have had no FAMILY VALUES instilled in you. Quality family time is the most important time, dinner, supper whatever you wish to call it is where my parents conversed with us.  We all left the table to-gether after eating.

I remember playing 'Cowbays and Indians' and also re-enacting every episode of 'Combat' (with Vic Morrow) with my brothers and mates.

I didn't grow up to become a gun toting, crazy who shoot's up McDonalds Restaurants or High Schools.

The truely disturbed will always find a way to cause their mayhem, and the Media will always find a scapegoat to pin the blame for it on.

As Trucker said, I'm more inclined to think that, more often than not, poor upbringing is responsible for the violence in our world (that or mental illness).

Bren you've obviously never been in a classroom with 45 rioting seventeen year olds! That is enough to drive anyone to violence. Now where did I put my chainsaw?

It might seem that I'm contradicting myself here (it wouldn't be the first time). I have seen some games that seem popular with the young that I consider would have some effect on their outlook & encourage mindless & gratuitous violence. In my experience being exposed to anything for long enough makes it acceptable as "normal" behaviour. This is true whether it be good, relatively harmless or extremely offensive. I could be wrong but I wouldn't wish my own children to go anywhere near one of these games. Although I'm against censorship the same applies to some films & even pop songs. In my day pop songs were about love or at least lust. What happened to flower power & "Make Love Not War"? There seems to be a worrying culture of gratuitous violence & mindless vandalism in our modern society. This is happening so often that nobody seems surprised or shocked by it any more. In other words, we're inured to it so it's become acceptable. Instead of tackling the root cause we simply put up with it as inevitable. Nobody in authority seems to worry too much about this or investigate the causes. I often wonder where it will all end.

Having already stated my own view that CFS & similar "games" are not a bad influence on anyone in any shape or form I could be completely wrong about the other things too. Somehow I don't think so.

PS. I feel that it's dangerous to lump everything into a single category. This is the mistake the politicians, authorities & so-called "experts" make all too often.

Overall, I have never considered video games to be anything more than what they are meant to be...entertainment...or a hobby, this goes the same with movies and TV shows.
Anyone who lets these forms of entertainment influence their real-life actions or attitudes must have very weak minds to begin with and should seek professional help.

Paz. I think this is the whole problem. Too many people these days, not only youngsters, appear not to have been taught any moral values whatsoever. This goes back to what Flying Trucker said about parental influence & family values. My wife & I taught our own daughter these things, not only with words but also by example. I respect anyone's right to do things their own way, providing (& this is the big issue here) providing that by doing so they do not harm or offend anyone else. A "civilised" society must abide by a few simple rules.

Fozzer. Before you or anyone else gets on their moral high horse about what a bloodthirsty lot the CFS community is, please remember that it was suggested, not without good reason, that FS was used for a very unpeaceful purpose not so long ago.

Ditto Paz, Fozz, and Hagar,...............It's always been my philosiphy that things like this simply do not have my permission to affect me.

They can affect you of course,.............but only if you let them.
