Ok i know this may sound like a strange topic, and its not meant to pick out every little problem:) But am i the only one who has a problem with the fact you can here the Phasers and Torpedos fire from an outside viewpoint?? as far as i can remember from my science lessons there is no real sound in space???
just bugs me thats all please correct me if i am wrong.

also to pad this out, if it were the star trek universe what would your job be and what race and place would you be stationed at.(for fun) and no we cant all be captains of the flag ship:)
I'd have to say tactical officer or helm for me, onboard a nebula or galaxy class vessel.

On the subject of the sound effects we all know how Joe Public likes as much noise as possible for any little thing whether it's realistic or not. I rather like the sound of the photon torpedoes myself. ;)

Why can't I be the Captain? :P

lol you can be captain if you want, as you called it first, i just said we cant all call the position:) Pete could be the honourary fleet admiral LOL

I know the effects are there to make it seem alot more exciting, kind of boring watching a silent screen while there are explosions, i was mainly wondering would you actually here those???

side note which torpedo sound do you like exactly??
I personally like the original series the best that cool sound they made followed by the next generation.

Thats why 2001: A Space Odyssey was concidered such a great movie at the time. There were no sounds in the space scenes

lol i wondered who would pick Q:)
As for the sound i could only find that the sound of the original doors being opened was apparently the sound of an airpistol being fired then reversed through a computer:)

I herd that you cant hear sound in space.

I might be wrong so correct me if I say something silly.

Sound is a form of wave energy that has to be transferred through substances (a medium), like air, water, metal, and other stuff. I also think that the speed and distance varies under conditions. I'm really not sure about this stuff, but the two out of how many factors of speed of sound is temperature and substance. Like a sound wave might travel faster through metal than air. Then, the speed of sound varies with temperature. Like a sound wave will travel at 660 knots at 15 degrees Celsius and 575 knots at -60 Celsius.

I could be wrong... ???

He is japenese. As a matter of fact he recently went to an old internment camp were he and his family had to stay during WWII

"Tactical" fires the weapons. Worf in TNG (previously Tasha Yarr), Tuvok in Voyager, usually Jadzia in DS9 and in TOS I think it was Sulu, the helmsman that had the dual role. Correct me please, if wrong.  :D ;)

As for the noise, it would make a pretty dull battle with no gun noises and no explosions (you forgot to mention the noise they make). In fact, any noises from outside the ship would be impossible to hear unless they 'impacted' on the hull.  ;D ;)

yes the charachter sulu was also from japan.
yes brensec your almost correct. Sulu wasnt used for weapons unless checkov was busy and vicea versa
remember guys who want tactical apart from DS9 where major kira took the role with odo, you'd also have to assume head of security:)

as for the airpistol i just looked it up, they could have used a tape recorder and played it back for all i know:)
