The desktop thread is gone. Was it deleted accidently, intentionally, or, did the monster come back?

I think that its size was too large because of all those pictures.

Yah, probably . . . because the maximum amount of pics we are allowed to be on one thread is  ???7 or something or the maximum of 500 kb.'s, so I guess that's why it got automatically or manually deleted.

I guess no more Desktop show-offs, because if everyone posts their desktops, the thread will be deleted. :-[

Hasn't this happened before and Pete deleted it for that very reason.  I seem to remember the desktop thing happening a handful of times and always ending this way.

It could be the server again (every so often it seems to have a tantrum), one of my threads vanished the other day from Freeware Screenshots, and Ramsa's tips for CFS3 vanished (again!).

Nope - I deleted it.

Please remember that asking for desktop themes is a non starter because it take 5 seconds thought to realise 500K will be enough for about 4 posts. Desktop images are usually big...

Thanks Pete. I understand why, we broke the rules. . .

So, my idea for a fix - I will put the pictures on my website, but, I will only place a text link on SimV. That way, Pete doesn't have to pay for as much bandwith. Problem solved. Let me set up a system tonight, so that everyone who want's their picture to be visible online, can see it. Same rules apply as SimV, pics must be below 100k. Only difference is, no maximum size per thread. To do this, I first need to know who would like this, and, what your internet connection speed is, so I can decide how many pictures per page. For now, I will assume the avg. connection is 56k.

I don't think a bandwith problem is why Pete doesn't allow them.  It seems like before when threads had too many images in them (or just got too big)-they slowed the whole system down and caused the board to have issues.

I once suggested posting links to images instead of the images themselves in this sort of thread. Very few people took the slightest notice & some regulars (who should know better) even quote previous replies with all the original images in them. This is still happening in the Screenshots forum almost every day. That's that then. Back to the drawing board. ::)

Yup - one of the silliest things I've seen - quoting image posts so the images appear all over again .....   ::)
