But it is!

Nuclear poweplants are already being used and last year for a current event I read the Pres. signed a 6 billion dollar contract or some poo like that for the research of even better and efficient nuclear power.

There have been no new nuclear power plants in the US in the past 20+ years, and no new ones are in the pipeline.  Some are now being decommissioned.  The gestation period for a new plant is easily 7-10 years before a single megawatt is produced ...
