Save the Concorde? I know that I am going to get a lot of crap over what I am going to say, But lets face it, The plane is done, it over, no longer flying. What the hell is there to save? Most of them ARE being saved in museums, so that most of us "poor" people can get up and maybe inside one. The plane sucks WAY too much fuel, it is noisey, and is too expensive for up keep. Add to that the rather "poor" up keep it had, according to the Discovery Wings show "Concorde: The anatomy of a disaster".
Dont get me wrong, It is a great looking plane and I missed sleep just to see it land in Reno, NV a few years ago. Do I think that other planes should meet the same fate and the speedbird...Yes. The Boeing 727 is very loud even with the hush packs.
WAIT!! One of you is going to say something about military aircraft. These planes serve a diiffernt purpose. The engines on some of these planes  need to be more powerful than the commercial planes to meet mission needs.
Ok, off the soap box, and waiting for the hits...oh and BTW, this needs to be moved to General discussion I think

OK-no problem-opinions do vary-it was just the way B.A. and Aerobus Industrie colluded to keep it away from Branson(Their arch enemy) that annoyed a lot of people-anyway, nice to get a reaction-Thanks for your input ;)

thank you loomex finally someone else who truely agrees with me:) she has had a pefect retirement and now its time for her to rest, after many years of fine service.
please please please stop with the Branson deal, he could NOT keep concorde in the air, this isnt BA just being against him.
and first of all it wasnt BA who pulled concorde from service it was airfrance and then Airbus, it has always been known that it needed airfrance and BA to run, without AF Airbus pulled out, without Airbus there are no Parts, and it wouldnt have matter if Branson would have bought them, he would have had no parts, no mechanics, and because of that no insurance. so no concorde.
blame Air France, and Airbus. but not BA they had no choice.
and who should put them in museums? BA the company who ended up paying billions running them or Virgin who offered

hi pete.
Of coarse i want it to stay flying. as strange as it may seem with my posts, but i am putting down everything i have read and know to be true and as accurate as possible.
Concorde and the Vulcan project are two completely differant things, parts would be readly avaliable for this vulcan as it has been built with  newer parts that have been modified with the aircraft, plus look how long it has taken to even get close.
As for Branson if you believe what he says then hey good for you:)LOL
why would BA sell him the plane?? just for him to keep it in airshows? BA could do that themselves, and they still might, remember its not just costs, its parts and mechanics, Branson has no mechanics, and BA sure wont give them up, most dont want to go either, and there is no way Concorde will be given permission to fly unless the mechanics are those who have worked on it with BA.
i really would love to see it fly, but lets also face it, does an airliner like that which is designed for nothing but supersonic cruise, deserve to be put on one or two slow flybys moved to another location at subsonic speeds and then do the same thing.
well as i said somewhere else, this week we will find out.
Maybe they will maybe they wont, either way i am happy. as i will never be able to afford to fly on it and as long as branson is kept away i dont mind

Branson as a person i have no problem with, Branson, as an airline owner again no problem, however, all he wants concorde for is to rub it into the face of BA that he could get hold of it, he would drape it in Virgin colors which would be horrible, and it would be nothing more than a spoilt kid getting his way. then when it does retire it would have to be put into museums in virgin colors, not the company who kept it running for so many years sucessfully, people in the future would forget about who truely made the plane, and who truely made the plane what it is today, because Branson wouldnt be happy until that happened.
As for BA i am not worried about them, like most airlines they are suffering but are still in a safe enough position. admitidly i cant agree to some of there owners and managers business practises.

Side note please dont take offense to these posts Pete:) like you i am very passionate on this subject, but with a couple of differant views on how to get the best. We both want it to stay flying though just differant ways
Cheers Mate:)

BA are not as innocent as you seem to think Craig. this might not apply to the present management but some of their business practices in the past have been dubious to say the least. I'm sure everyone knows that they never wanted Concorde in the first place. To save the government embarrassment they reluctantly agreed to accept them for a token price of

I knew that this was going to be a hot topic, and once again in the famous SimV forum style it is remaining civil :D
I see both sides of this in one respect...flying to airshows. Yeah it would be cool to have all famous retired aircraft do flyby's at airshows, but it all comes down to the cost. Look how much it cost to go and walk through any of the Confederate Air Force's planes( for those of you that dont know, the ConAF maintains and flys a large array of WWII planes). That is to help with the upkeep just to keep the 60+ year old planes flying. In Elmira, NY there is a museum that cost $$ to get into, and on the two days the Air Show is on, They charge to get into the airfield to watch it...why? Because it cost a lot of $$$$ to restore, rebuild, maintain, and fly these planes.
So what is my point. Well, I really dont remember, but I aint going to erase this after typing it.
Oh yeah...Concorde + Airshows = too much money, or atleast I think thats what it was...Oh cool...700 post ;D

even if it was kept in operation for now it wouldnt be up for much longer its an old machine lets face it....how many aircraft are kept for 30 years plus before being pulled out of the sky....i love the concorde but i feel as though they shouldnt be left in museums they should be kept in working order for airshows.. there will be a time when it will be missed and would attract people to airshows with it being possibly one of the greatest aircraft of all time. similar to the tu144 which i personally prefer because it was faster.. that thing has ended up as scrap in most cases i dont want to see concorde same route....there should be a petition to keep it in working order not carry passengers again.

howdy hagar I know BA are less than innocent when it comes to business practices, but they also put billions into the plane wthout it being covered by the Government.
and Pete, the sea vixen is my biggest fear of what will happen to concorde, it is great that it is still flying, i personally have seen it a few times in yeovil, but its covered in red bull stickers,
Hi Daz did you know the designs for the Tu144 were stolen from the british but we got wind of the plan an altered the plans before they were?. the planes biggest failing was its engines, they wouldnt have ever been able to last, and the russians kept begging france and britain for help. Its a shame really that it wasnt a success, it would have forced BA and AF to keep their prices reasonable, and also it looked cool
